The Good
Hotel location is perfect! Located on A1A in the heart of Daytona Beach amentities and attractions. Located directly on the beach, so beach access is free and convenient. Low rate cost of room. The staff was friendly and accomodating.
The Bad
This is an old motel. It has not been updated, in my guess, 20-25 years. Everything from entry doors (ours didn't open/close properly), carpeting, bedding, furniture, bathroom fixtures, etc is obviously very old and none of it matches in decor. They have, however, repainted the exterior, which looks presentable. It's old to the point of looking very dated and kind of gross inside though. We wanted to sleep hovering above the covers, to say the least. Carpeting was very worn and dirty looking. Upon check-in, there were noticeable food crumbs on the floor. The dresser had sticky coffee rings on the top. The lighting was insufficient in the room itself. One tiny lamp between the beds with an improperly sized lampshade. The beds were not properly made. They simply draped the sheets over the matresses, rather than tucking them in as they should and do at all respectable motels. Bathroom was disgusting. Hair on the counter and in shower. Shampoo bottle cap left in shower from previous vacationer. Mold/mildew growing on bathroom ceiling. Toothpaste on bathroom sink counter. Unexcusably disgusting house keeping overall. We kept our shoes on inside the room to keep our feet clean. The coffee maker did not work., although the kitchenette was an uexpected surprise. It was rather gross too though.
The first morning of our visit, there was no hot water for our showers. After talking to front desk, apparently the pilot-light on the boiler had gone out. We were told this happens there a lot because of the boiler being located where rain water floods it. Whenever it rains hard, it floods the boiler and blows the pilot-light out. Excpect a cold shower if it rains during your stay.
Motel parking is a joke. The parking spaces are insanely tight. No one seems to try parking straight because it's so difficult to manuever in the SMALL parking lot. Don't be surprised if you can't park in the lot because so many people are taking up 2 spaces. Being charged $3 a day parking fee for this is almost offensive. The pool deck was an absolute joke compared to the pictures shown on other cheap travel website. Lounging chairs and tables with umbrellas were not nicely set up as in the pictures. Chairs were strewn about. No umbrella tables seen. Sand covered the pool deck in a wet, muddy fashion. Looked just as nasty as our hotel room. The pics are so decieving they should be sued for false advertising. Our room looked absolutely nothing like the one pictured. I would say only about 1/3 of the rooms face the ocean. The rest face the neighboring buildings, which are just as old and nasty looking.
Really, if they renovated this hotel top to bottom, inside and out, it would be fabulous. The location is excellent and we were very pleased with that aspect. In it's current state, it's a total dive. I would have given this place 1 star, but the location and easy beach access made me bump it up to 2 stars.
