We were looking for a clean, safe place to spend one night on Daytona Beach, without breaking the budget. At $34 (plus parking and room safe fees they don't tell you about until you check in, ) it wasn't too bad. This is not the place to go for ambiance. The halls were creepy and dark, the elevator broken, the narrow back steps to the parking lot covered with sand. However, the room itself was about average, and it appeared as though some effort had gone into selecting pleasant furnishings. It does have the feel of a 60's motel, with some updates. We didn't care that our room did not have an ocean view, but had I been there alone, I would not have appreciated the large picture window and back door leading to the walkway of the second floor. The beds weren't bad, and there was enough room to move around in. There was sort of a mildewy smell we noticed when we first came into the room. Our room did have the red stains on the carpet, and a microwave with a ding in the side. (I pictured it having been dropped off the balcony by an exuberant coed during spring break.) The bedspread had a small amount of brownish substance that I like to think was chocolate. Oh, and the next morning I did find drug paraphernalia on the floor next to the bed. Other than that...
Actually, at $38, we did not consider it a bad deal for a place to sleep, especially on the beach. Of course, it was a Wednesday night in mid-November, so there were probably other places where we might have gotten a cheap rate without the "extras."
