I booked this hotel using Hotwire.com and as soon as I found out the name and looked up the reviews online, I was very apprehensive. I called the hotel directly to ask if there were indeed as many problems as the reviews implied and the staff was very honest. They admitted that they had palmetto bugs (think roaches on steroids), but that it was common in Florida. I wrote to Hotwire and explained my concerns and skepticism over this being a 2 star hotel, but went anyway because I couldn't afford to pay for another room on top of this one. Indeed, there was black mold in the shower, trash between the bed and wall, and a TERRIBLE smell coming from the heater. The bedspreads were stained and there was hair in the bed when I turned down the covers. The carpets are disgusting, and although the hotel claims that it's an installation mistake, I'm pretty sure that the carpet company isn't obligated to clean the rooms. At the very least, this hotel needs to shampoo the carpets and hire an effective housekeeping staff. It has great potential given it's location, but I don't think that the accomodations will attract the kind of clientele that will let it thrive. On a sidenote, Hotwire.com made it right with me.

“Ghost of Spring Breaks Past”

Conch House

Jan 22, 2008

We were looking for a clean, safe place to spend one night on Daytona Beach, without breaking the budget. At $34 (plus parking and room safe fees they don't tell you about until you check in, ) it wasn't too bad. This is not the place to go for ambiance. The halls were creepy and dark, the elevator broken, the narrow back steps to the parking lot covered with sand. However, the room itself was about average, and it appeared as though some effort had gone into selecting pleasant furnishings. It does have the feel of a 60's motel, with some updates. We didn't care that our room did not have an ocean view, but had I been there alone, I would not have appreciated the large picture window and back door leading to the walkway of the second floor. The beds weren't bad, and there was enough room to move around in. There was sort of a mildewy smell we noticed when we first came into the room. Our room did have the red stains on the carpet, and a microwave with a ding in the side. (I pictured it having been dropped off the balcony by an exuberant coed during spring break.) The bedspread had a small amount of brownish substance that I like to think was chocolate. Oh, and the next morning I did find drug paraphernalia on the floor next to the bed. Other than that...
Actually, at $38, we did not consider it a bad deal for a place to sleep, especially on the beach. Of course, it was a Wednesday night in mid-November, so there were probably other places where we might have gotten a cheap rate without the "extras."

We arrived in Daytona a day early during busy Spring Break Season.
We were booked at the Ocean Walk, but they were sold out for a early arrival.
We looked up and down and tried our best to choose one just for a sleep until we could change rooms til the morning.
Thus we landed the Daytona Seabreeze. As soon as we walked into the room our 6 year old asked why we were at a dump. OUCH. We told her well at least it was a room for the night. Soon we noticed right cross from our street facing room police setting up some sort of station. We asked a officer, he said it was a temporary holding station for the night. He also said stay in your room, lock the doors that it gets bad around here. As we began to settle in for the night the little one said to our suprise, Ok, goodnight and can we leave the lights on, I asked why, she said for the pets the old people left here. Of course I almost died and said were, she said everywhere look, I almost fell out of my skin, you could see cockroaches coming up from the bathtub drain, and upon further inspection they were everywhere. I sat up all night with the lights on while everyone slept holding a newspaper to kill things. I cannot say all was lost, the temporary police station provided much entertainment for the night. We left at 7 am, sat on deck chairs at the Ocean Walk until our room was ready!!!

We stayed one night at the Conch House in October 2007.

We found the hotel in poor condition. The rooms where not clean and the carpets in the whole building needed replacing.

We had an electric extention box that blew up on me, The maid did not knock and walked in while we were getting dressed. Don't think she will do that again!

The whole hotel/motel need a lot of care and attention.
Don't think we would stay there again

“Horrible Hotel”

Conch House

Oct 22, 2007

This is the nastiest place I have ever been in. It was worse than the out houses along Main St. at Biketoberfest. It woud have cleaner and less rustier to stay in a out house. The run was filthy and completely stained. Corrosion, rust, mildew on the walls, doors, appliances (microwave), frig rust and smelled. The bathroom faucets and sink looked as if it was submerged in the sea............The room smelled of mildew. This hotel should be condemned, I can't belive that they would be allowed to charge $179 a night on Biketoberfest. You can only fool people once. It is not what you see on their site.
