Really an amazing story about life for the light keeper and family who lived there. It seems impossible that it was so isolated and really an tough life but it wasn't that long ago and it isn't that far from everything modern now.
Climb the lighthouse for a great view!
I came her in 1977 and have not been able to leave. Beach, biking, hiking, birding, fishing, dancing, boating and surfing. What better to jump on your bike and head to the Jetty to see if surf is up or if they are biting.
Below is one such trip when I ran into a crew from Guiness Beer who had just inducted Bernie (Who works at NY Bagel in the Shores) into the Guiness book of World records for "surfing a 30 second wave whilst spinning a basketball".
Nice grounds and interesting history. Need to be physically fit to reach the top of the lighthouse. Stop at the Inlet bar for cocktails after your visit.
Nice park with lighthouse.. Kids enjoyed the play area and the museum is good. Climb to top is over 200 steps
On our annual trips to Florida we always go to Ponce Inlet to see the beautiful red lighthouse and eat at the restaurant near the water. If you've never tried alligator bites, go ahead, they are especially good with the berry dip! Watch the many Floriday pelicans and herons come visit while you eat and of course fresh oysters are available any time. Give it a try!
