Just returned from an 8 night stay at the Bahama Bay resort.(16-24thNov)
What a wonderful place. Booked a two bedroom, but on check in was given a three bedroom apartment.

Have visited Orlando on several occasions, last time stayed on International Drive - this resort maybe further away from the theme parks (about 15-20 minutes drive) but its worth the drive to stay in such a great place as the Bahama Bay.
Our apartment was very spacious and clean and had all the amenties that you would need (including a fully equipped kitchen - should you feel the need to cook!)

We loved the quietness, (something you don't find in most motel rooms)

This resort is not easy to find, especially in the dark. If you are travelling from the 192, you turn onto the 27, between the 1st and 2nd set of traffic lights - look on the left hand side for the words Davenport Lakes written on a corner wall.

There is a very well supplied supermarket (Publix) about 5 minutes away from the resort.

I would not hesitiate in recommending this resort, and would certainly love to make a return trip.

The Bahama Bay was absolutely superb. I agree with the reviewer who stated that you want for nothing. I had emailed the resort directly as I work for an airline and requested an airline rate. We decided to arrive a day early and emailed that request but we didn't get a reply. We found out on arrival back home that the reservations clerk had been on holiday, however, none of this turned out to be a problem at all and we actually ended up staying an extra 3 days as the accommodation was way above expectations. (We missed our trip to Niagara tho'!) We had also booked a two-bedroomed condo and were upgraded to a 3-bedroom. The condo has everything that you could possibly need - microwave, cooker with oven, fridge-freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, iron & board, food mixer, cutlery, crockery etc, TV, DVD, CD player, lots of towels, which you just washed and tumbled every other day - no hassle - and some toiletries and a couple of dish washer tablets. There were two little balconies with bug screens but the mossies weren't out when we were there.

Supplies - The nearby Wallmart and Publix stores have cheap washer and dish washer tablets in small quantities so there isn't any real worry if you don't take them with you.

I noted before we went that a reviewer had a problem with the safe but staff did not attend to it within what they considered a reasonable time. We also had a problem with the safe as it just wouldn't open one day. The handyman arrived within 3 minutes of us calling the concierge and he speedily and efficiently dealt with the problem.

Tip about the internet - a few reviewers mentioned the fact that there were never any internet cards. I found this too but the reception staff gave me a great tip. There's a library on the I192 next to the Publix who offer free internet access. The library staff are just so lovely and very helpful/knowledgable about Orlando. I also went to the tourist office accross the road once the library was closed and the chap allowed me to use the internet for 15 mins without charge. I think that for 5USD you can get an hour's usage, tho'.

Biggest tip - I'm not sure if I'm allowed to state this but my biggest tip for anyone visiting Florida is to use the Bank of America ATM (there's one next to Wallmart on the US27, 2 mins from the resort). Use a Nationwide flexaccount debit card and you get a great exchange rate (bank rate, not tourist) and there's no foreign exchange or bank charge.

Getting there - it's actually quite easy as you can follow signposts for Disney from the airport then onto I192, merge left onto US27 and Florence Villa Grove Road is the turnoff you want to take - it's the next left after Bass Lake Resort - so we just looked out for that resort on the left , stuck with the left lane and took the next turnoff. The resort is at the end of Florence Villa Grove Road - the address is Gran Bahama Bay Boulevard but that's because that's a road within the condo resort. The short cut to I192 still wasn't complete when we arrived in July but it didn't really take long to get to Disney or the outlet malls etc. The only day that we had a problem was when there had been a crash on the I192.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me.

We will definately be back and recommend this to anyone. I guess if you want hotel-style accommodation where everything is done for you this is not the place for you, although you can pay for someone to clean the room daily and there's room service so it might suit. It was a great base for us with everything that we could possibly want and need.
Happy Florida holidays!

“Beautiful place, worth the drive”

We just returned from a 4 night Thanksgiving stay at a 2 bedroom apartment in the Bahama Bay Resort (parents + 2 toddlers). The place is BEAUTIFUL, apartments are huge, spotless clean, everything looks brand new. You totally forget you are so close to the hotel madness that is 10 min away. There is a beach by the pool, sorrounded by a beautiful and peaceful lake with no other buildings around...you just see trees around the lake....like in a natural reserve. The Resort is amazing.

Cons: it is a 20 min drive to the Disney parks, 30 min to Sea World. On the first 2 nights we thought that the drive was totally worth it, but by the 3rd night we were so tyred after the park closed at 9:30 pm that we wished we didn't have to drive to the hotel.....but then we remember how much we paid for it ($100 a night including taxes, via skyauction, found the same rate in Orbitz) and that price would have paid for a matchbox size room at a Disney value hotel...was then that we realized again that the drive wasn't too bad...we try to avoid as much as possible to sleep in the same quarters than our little kids (the baby stil cryes in the night, and won't go back to sleep if he sees someone around). It's so nice to have a huge room and HUGE bathroom just for you and your spouse.
We definetely recommend this wonderful resort, not for the ones that want a 5 min drive to their hotels. You would pay over $350/night at a comparable Disney resort. Worth the drive for us.

“Clean, Quiet & Worth the Drive to the Parks!”

Bahama Bay Resort Orlando

Nov 27, 2006

My husband and I traveled to Orlando the week before Thanksgiving with our three kids (ages 2-9) for a Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure vacation. We booked a three-bedroom condo at Bahama Bay for 4 nights through Travelocity.com for $108/nite. We knew that the resort was a good 25-30 minute drive from the Universal parks (@15-20 from Disney parks), but we stayed in Davenport the year prior at a resort just down the street, so we knew the drive was not all that bad. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The front desk clerk was very friendly and polite at our late check-in (around 11 pm). We got a three-bedroom condo at the front of the property (100 Bldg.) w/a view of the clubhouse pool and one of the lakes. The condo was very clean, especially the bathrooms! The furniture was in very good condition and the kitchen appliances appeared like new. There was plenty of linens. The condo includes a washer/dryer. I would suggest that you bring your own dish & laundry detergents/soaps. There is no free daily housekeeping, but our unit was equiped with the necessities - vaccum, mop, broom, etc. Also, you have to take your own trash down to the first floor trash receptacle. Our unit had a screened porch off the master and the living room. The only negative during our stay was that there were only two tvs - one in the master, very small set attached above the closet doors; and one in the living room. The other two bedrooms had no tv, which was inconvenient for the kids. Our stay was otherwise enjoyable and very quiet. We did not get to enjoy the pools or see the larger lake at the other side of the property because the pools opened at 9 and closed at 7 pm, just as the amusement parks. We would definitely book this resort again. Be sure to call the resort for complete directions from Interstate 4 to the main highway leading the the resort, as there is no signage for Bahama Bay off the main highway!

“the best holiday ever!”

Bahama Bay Resort Orlando

This was our 3rd trip to Florida, we stayed on I Drive twice, this was our 1st trip to Bahama Bay + what a fantastic place to stay. We had a 3 bedroom condo for 3 of us. Beautiful pool areas, very peaceful, loads of beds, never busy. A man made beach + a lake. Restaurant was fine for a few visits but there are so many great places to eat we ate out most of the time. Can honestly say that Florida is my best holiday ever + Europe now holds no interest whatsover. Nice friendly genuine people, beautiful weather, gorgeous beaches + the Disney parks have to be seen to be believed just how magical they are. I have never had a steak in the UK cooked as well as in the USA. This will not be our last visit. We booked with Travel City Direct + this time upgraded to sunshine premium, bigger seats, no kids under 9, tv in headrests + very worth the extra £169 each. Go on, book a trip to Florida + stay at Bahama Bay, you will not regret it!
