Del Carmen Restaurant is in Historic Dade City downtown. It offers authentic food in a large clean dining room. The cooking appears to be done in the tacqueria on site which also offers carryout. A mexican mercado is attached to the dining room which includes a panderia (mexican baked goods), general market and a meat market. We purchased pan dulce (cookies and breakfast sweet bread) and also chorizo sausage to take with us.
The food was hot, fresh and very flavorful (not spicy). One ordered chicken tacos with onions, cilantro, lettuce and tomato. These were served soft corn shell and were delicious. You purchase these per taco. Various other meat selections were offered including pork, chorizo and beef. One ordered enchiladas which were also delicious and served with re-fried beans and rice. The last order was tamales and also very good.
Prices were fair and we took most of our meal home as the portions were very generous. This is a recommended stop for people looking for authentic Mexican food. We hope to return to sample other meal options.
