Great seafood in a very nice setting overlooking the water.
The atmosphere of Charlie's is lovely and more upscale than a lot of the local seafood restaurants of this area and it does have a nice view of the bay and some outdoor seating. However, the food is just barely average. They do have great catfish, but be wary of the baked potatoes. They are definitely microwaved and were hard in the middle. The prices are higher than most of the other area eateries. Been there 3 times to be fair, but have no intention of going back.
I've been a regular at Charlies but having to travel alot till recently, I decided to dine at Charlies at the first opportunity. The food was as always excellent ! Then I came across some negative reviews about their food ? Very hard for me to believe since I have never had a bad sub par experience while dining at Charlies wheather dining alone or with a large group. Yes, some times the kids would have rather we ate at the local fast food lacations but they get over that once the food is served. I guess 50 years serving the freshest seafood available doesn't make you perfect .I do know this, Charlies will always be our families choice when visiting in Crystal River. In closing, our kids have grown up and insist we go to Charlies when ever possible.
I had the seafood platter, the salad was great but the blue cheeze dressing was very waterery and very few pieces of cheeze. The oysters were good, scallops good and shrimp good. The grouper was very dry and I think overcooked. The crab cake was a waste, I didn't eat it.

We make it a point to eat at Charley's at least once every time we come down to visit our elderly relatives who live near there. The fish is very fresh and the stone crabs are out of this world. The portion is huge and the price isn't. The same meal in Miami Beach would break the bank! An added bonus: a pelican might just decide to perch on the deck right outside your window.
