We were en route to Venice, FL and decided to stop in Crystal River since it was the only accommodation we could find on a busy spring break weekend. We had been on the road for 10 hours and decided to reward ourselves with a good meal. The hotel recommended a nearby steakhouse on a major road, but there was a crowd waiting outside to be seated and the music was audible in the parking lot. So we decided to turn around on a side street and look for another restaurant. In the process, we stumbled upon Cafe on the Avenue, and are we glad we did!
The restaurant was in a vintage building with the original wooden floors. The atmosphere was quiet and the service outstanding. We chose brie for an appetizer. It was served with thinly sliced apple dipped in cinnamon, grapes, and rounds of hearty bread and drizzled with raspberry sauce. Excellent presentation and delicious. One of us ordered a salad with seafood entree and the other skewers of steak and shrimp. Both were well-prepared and tasty. Our waitress was attentive and efficient without making us feel rushed. We declined dessert, but the choices looked yummy. Would recommend this restaurant for anyone who desires good food, a quiet atmosphere, and reasonable prices.
There were little boutiques surrounding the parking lot behind the Cafe. Would undoubtedly be a delightful place for lunch, too.
