Check-in was uncomplicated, unsnooty, and pleasant. They accommodate both valet parking with bell hop assistance, or self-park and tote your own luggage.

The Hyatt Regency Coral Gables is a classic older hotel with a grand lobby. Our room was larger than average, with room for a couch, two chairs and a desk. The bath had a generous amount of space, and there was an additional make-up area outside the bath. The room had a wonderful luxurious, classic old hotel feel.

Everything was grand until we pulled back the covers to climb into bed. Since the comforter and top sheets were tucked under the mattress with the bottom sheets, they were pulled out as one attempted to climb into bed. But the real problem was that the bottom sheet was better than a foot shorter than the mattress, exposing what looked like a piece of blanket substituting for a mattress cover. We remade the bed and discovered that the problem was that the bottom sheet was not big enough to be cover both the top and bottom ends of the mattress at the same time. This is not an unusual problem at Hyatt. We experienced the same short sheeting at our last stay at a Hyatt Regency (in Irvine, CA).

Even when remade, the comforter made the night less than comfortable. It was much to warm to be covered by the heavy comforter, and too cold with it off. Why any hotelier would believe that a comforter would be desirable in Miami is beyond my understanding.

One more issue--the toilet clogged requiring a service call. We were traveling with friends, and they told us that they also had to call for their toilet to be unclogged. Our toilet clogged again the next night.

Our room at the Hyatt Regency did include coffee in the room and a complimentary paper. WiFi was available for an additional charge.

Our bill had a breakfast charge on it which we had not purchased (which was courteously removed).

We booked the hotel through a priceline.com bid, at $135/room/night. Self parking was an additional $16/night. Valet parking was $17/night.

After reading some of the reviews on this website i was a little apprehensive about our stay at this hotel. After a great rate of $213 for 2 nights all in on hotwire i was extremley satisfied with my stay at this rather grand lookin hotel.from the warm welcome to the large rooms with a balcony and view of Miami i was left to think what is it some people want from a hotel???Even though we booked through hotwire we still recieved a warm welcome and was offered a suite for a little extra but declined this and went with a 2 queen bedded room and boy was we shocked. We were given a room on the 5th floor with a city view from the balcony it is only the 5 and i think 9th floor that have balconys so be sure to ask for one of these upon check in.the rooms were large and clean with a huge bathroom. The lobby was very grand and the pool although small was warm and inviting. The surrounding area is full of restaraunts to suit all wallets.Self park $12 and valet park$16.If i had paid top dollar for this hotel maybe i would not be so pleased with this hotel but as i only paid $106.50 a night inclusive of tax i was over joyed with my stay at the Hyatt regency coral gables

I stayed at the Hyatt for a wedding. It was a close enough drive to southbeach daily yet close enough so I didn't need to drive after the wedding. The hotel is standard Hyatt. I had a room on the 5th floor - which is the pool level. The bathroom is ok, the room is normal size. It is not brandspanking new but it is clean . Maids are a bit grumpy. But as an alternative to staying in overpriced southbeach - i think it is a great one: 5 minutes to Calle Ocho (Little Havana) and 20 minutes to southbeach with no traffic.
Parking is $16 a day

“Hotel Class Should be Lower!!”

Hyatt Regency Coral Gables

May 7, 2008

My husband and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency during the week of April 21st for a short romantic getaway. I booked this hotel using Hotwire and got a terrific discount on the King Room rate.

The hotel's exterior appearance is well suited to the Coral Gables area. The foyer is just as impressive and what you'd be expect for this class hotel.

Our room was spacious and well-appointed but for a "4 Star" rated hotel there a few amenities missing, like bathrobes, a free bottle of water etc. The bed was very comfortable but the furniture and drapes showed some wear and need refreshing. On one side of the bed there was an unsightly stain and others like it in the hallways.

On the occasions we ordered room service, the dishes were either left in the room after housekeeping had visited or in the hallways right into the next day AND this is after we'd called for the service trays to be collected. It was a definite turn off to leave your room and see everyone's plates from the night before lining the hallway. You could tell what kind of party other guests had had just by seeing their discarded room service trays.

I am glad we paid a discounted rate as I would have been greatly disappointed to have paid what we usually do for true 4/5 Star hotels.

“Hotel Needs Renovation”

Hyatt Regency Coral Gables

May 5, 2008

We were there 4 nights last week. This is the fourth time we have stayed at the Hyatt Coral Gables in the past 14 years. The most recent visits were this year, 2007, and 2004. The hotel rooms are in need of renovation again. A renovation had been done sometime in the past 8-10 years and the beds have newer pillow-top mattresses.

There was a large chunk chipped out of the edge of the bathroom sink and it had a hairline crack in the bottom. There were stains in the ceiling above the shower head. The carpet was in poor shape. The room had a musty odor that odor killer/neutalizer spray couldn't hide. The coffee maker was on the shelf in one of the closets, the caraffe was missing.

The only reason I kept this room and didn't complain was that last year it took three different rooms there to get one with working A/C and then that one, which had a balcony, had water leaking in through the balcony door onto the carpet when it rained. In addition, as we were checking in this time, another guest was complaining to the front desk that the toilet didn't flush and he had no hot water from the bathroom sink faucet. We decided to keep the room we had, things were functioning.

The rooms are large and the beds comfortable. The Hyatt AAA -discounted rate is considerably cheaper than the Westin 's. The hotel entrance and parking garage are conveiently located, self-park is $16/day. There is a Denny's two blocks away on Miracle Mile (Coral Way), there are numerous inexpensive to very expensive restaurants within several blocks. The hotel is on the east end of downtown Coral Gables. The hotel is 3 miles south of the rental car return facilities at MIA off of NW 37th Avenue.

The hotel employees are friendly and try to be helpful, especially if you are polite to them. The hotel has a nice pool/patio area. Because half of the rooms overlook the pool and there are occasional receptions there at night with music, you might want to request a city-view (Alhambra side) room.
