When the venerable and honored Ernie's in San Francisco closed its doors, The loss was deeply felt by all who admired true elegant dining. Last night, friends took us to dinner, at Pascal on Ponce, and I am pleased to report that Ernie's is alive and well in Coral Gables, Florida! Although crowded and noisy, the dining experience was etherial in nature. The foie-gras was mouth-meltingly sublime, and I almost asked for a second plate! Our host had the cheese souffle, which he graciously let us sample, and I nearly regretted ordering the foie-gras. The choice of entrees was agonizingly difficult due to the savory descriptions in the menu. The tenderloin we chose was cooked to perfection, flavored by an angelic hand, and served by courteous and knowledgeable wait staff. The Grand Marnier souffle was awe-inspiring.
