When it comes to Miami cuisine....we'll were no NYC. But with places like Eating House popping up we are making our climb up the ladder. The food is inventive and comforting and takes a playful stance on some familiar foods (Like Captin Crunch Pancakes). I've notice a few technical issue here and there under/over seasoned plates or cloying sweet sauces or accompaniments on savory dishes. But all and all Eating House is on the top 10 Restaurants to go to in Miami.

This restaurant started out as a "pop-up" restaurant by a local Miami chef who won the "Chopped" series award several months ago. He has created a unique take on food and it is delicious. They are also open in the evenings for dinner Tues-Sat. The location is right on the edge of Coral Gables, so taking a walk after eating will just take you down the business section of Ponce de Leon Blvd, which is not the walking experience of Miracle Mile about 1 mile away. But, the food is worth the wait and the locale. For brunch we had the potato nuggets, eggs benedict, the oreo waffles, fried chicken thighs and waffles (also offered on the dinner menu), and the dirt cup for dessert. Their wine menu is small but pairs nicely with the offerings. I had the grenache, which was very tasty and paired nicely with my eggs benedict which came with delicious smoked apple wood bacon. Each dish was prepared with a creative touch which is a refreshing change. Prices are reasonable for serving sizes. I would suggest calling for a reservation so you don't have a long wait. They just starting taking reservations since they have become very popular for a new small restaurant. They really are a success! I look forward to returning for dinner and trying their creative delectable food.

I visited this restaurant with family and friends on its opening day. I did not know what to expect because its menu was very diverse, but somehow it all works out. We tried almost every dish and shared them. The Chicken thighs with waffles tasted so good, the Brusselsprouts were heavenly (although I had never tried them before, ) the pasta carbonara with bacon was outstanding. The dishes made with Nitrogen like the Key Lime Pie and the delicious Dirt chocolate dessert (served in a potting plant dish) was simply great, Portions are good for one-two people but when you are sharing between a group of five, it leaves you wanting more. Prices vary but since you want to try it all, it can be on the high side. Service was warm and friendly.

The food was alright, pasta carbonara and short ribs were good, but the mac and cheese was horrible---- we waited almost 2 hours for our table, but felt it was worth it because of the great reviews. What really shocked me was when the owner of the place actually had the nerve to ask us to leave our table as we were paying our bill. He said there were people waiting outside for almost 45 min and he needed to accomodate them. The worst part about it is that the owner actually had attitude when we advised him that we waited 2 hours outside and were only inside the restaurant in 45 min. We told him we were going to leave momentarily. They rushed us in and out like cattle. The owner appeared stressed and high-tempered, not good qualities to have with the public. Very smart of them to be a "pop-up" restaurant... they serve mediocre food, make money, and then get the hell out of town because they know the diners will not return.
