I ordered the cilantro soup,which was delicious. Unfortunately, the rest of the menu wasn't that good. My main course was huevos rancheros, which I always knew to be a hearty meal. This was three fried eggs over toast, with a dry lump of what seemed to be black beans. It was topped by a red sauce, no rice. no guacamole. My wife ordered huachinango (snapper) which she liked but the rice looked watery to me. My daughter ordered enchiladas, which were small and not very flavorful. They looked more like the 7/11 taquitos that sell at 3 for $2, and probably taste better. The plate was covered with a sauce foodie drawing, which seemed so out of place in a Mexican restaurant and seemed like a an attempt to fill out the empty plate. The service though, was pretty good.

Talavera has a great ambient, great food, a great service. It felt like we were eating at a high end restaurant with reasonable prices. It wasn't your typical Chili's, On the Border Mexican meal.. it was way better.

Food is great, actually. However i had to fish out a tiny plastic spoon from my soup which i almost swallowed and bit into. Restaurant manager justified the issue but didnt offer any kind of compensation. It wasnt even an apology, more like an explanation. Not what u expect on a 40 dollar per person meal. So whats the use of having great food if you have to risk swallowing plastic and then have the restaurant expect you to be cool with it? Tonnes of other great mexican options without the health hazard and attitude.

This place is one of our favorite restaurants in Miami. We dream about their queso con chorizo whenever we're overseas. The environment is excellent. The staff are always knowledgable, and the margaritas are off the charts! Try the Mexico city tacos or the juarrache grill with steak. It would be a sin to forget to order the queso.
