The tram tour is very informative. There are so many special events to attend. Membership is the best deal if you really enjoy the place. There is always something blooming. Natural beauty is the best!

“Just Beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

This was the highlight of my last US visit. It is a huge park, with so many beautiful plants from all over the world, plus indoor attractions such as a big butterfly hall. You can spend the whole day there and still not want to leave.

“Never Knew There Were So Many Species of Plants in One Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

83 acres of trees and other tropical plants for you to see. There are more than 2000 species of palms alone (not all there) Who knew? Admission is $25 adults, $15 children. This is a fascinating place for anyone interested in tropical fauna, OK, any kind of fauna. There is a butterfly house and an orchidarium. You can roam the grounds on your own - every plant is labeled (best to know your Latin). There is a 45 minute tram tour - which I highly recommend. The tour goes throughout the grounds giving you a history of the gardens as well as pointing out different types trees, plants, flowers, and shrubs. Even if you are not into gardening, it is a beautiful place. Don't expect a rose garden full of blossoms. There are always flowers in bloom, but it is nature at its best that makes it so delightful. Bring comfortable shoes, a hat, and your camera.

“Gorgeous in Every Way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

Even if you're not into "plants" - you'll love Fairchild. To call it beautiful is really an understatement as these spectacular manicured gardens are a living museum. Baobob trees from Africa, rare orchids, unique desert catci, and a visual artistry to the way the gardens are arranged make this place a huge departure from the rest of Miami.

But that's just the setting - Fairchild also has some amazing exhibits - from botanical labs and greenhouses to an all-new butterfly observatory (with viewable hatchery/incubator). And on an almost weekly basis there are special events and exhibits - honey and honeybees, art in the garden (Dave Chihuly glass is a recurring exhibit), mango festival, outdoor concert series, and more happen throughout the year.

There's even things for kids to do (especially during festivals), but even just touring the gardens, kids get a "bingo" map for spotting bugs, plants, and flowers; volunteers and staff will stop and do "teachable moments" for anything you can think of, and the cafe has popsicles and kid-friendly meals and treats. Actually - everything at the cafe is delicious - and very fresh (and eco packaged/served).

You can walk the trails and explore, or you can take the tram tour that features a knowledgeable guide on the microphone. Not a lot of AC - except the glass house cafe, but it's SO pleasant there October-June you really won't notice. Parking is free, outdoor food and drink (within reason - no coolers) are allowed. And membership usually allows free entry for family/friends/guests.
