“Wonderful 4-night stay, great hotel & great staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2011

We just returned from a wonderful 4-night stay at the Biltmore Coral Gables, a charming old hotel with very nice amenities and an incredibly attentive staff. We travel fairly extensively, in pretty nice places & may have developed a bit of "hotel snobbery", & this was one of our favorite spots ever ... and an incredible deal.

I was attending a conference & my family decided to come along for the trip. We were upgraded to a suite & the room was very comfortable (nice, clean, etc). The hotel is imbued with history & charm, with beautiful architecture & attention to detail throughout the facility. Even the conference center is a perfect mix of historical charm and modern functionality.

The food was fantastic, from a wonderful dinner at Palme d'Or to the poolside service to the pastries in the cafe ... everything was prepared perfectly and really a quite amazing bargain for the very high quality.

The golf course is beautiful & well-kept ... though I do think the range balls are in need of a refresh (and if that's my biggest "complaint", I'd say they're doing a great job).

The facilities, the food, the pool, they're all wonderful ... but they pale in comparison to the staff. WIth the possible exception of a few (very small and much more expensive) boutique hotels and cruise lines we've enjoyed, I've never been anywhere that so many members of the staff went out of their way to go the extra mile and provide that extra touch of service (not to mention how many of them remembered & used my name throughout our stay). The best example was when my 13-year old son went to the front desk to ask a question & David recognized his resemblance to me & guessed his last name (and, our son had not been with me when we checked in, is not a "dead ringer" for me, and I had only met David once at that point). From David's service at the front desk to the bag attendants & starters on the golf course to the waiters at the restaurants & poolside, everyone seemed focused on doing whatever they could to enhance our stay.

This was our first trip to the Biltmore but it will certainly not be our last!

I stayed at the Biltmore one night in October 2011 for a meeting. I wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy the pool, golf, and spa. Because of the extended hours I was able to book a spa appointment and it did not disappoint. I wish I was able to spend the afternoon at the pool instead of a cold meeting room! The fitness center was best in class. The service is top notch. My only complaint would be the slightly slow check in process, however the staff was very friendly and offered water or juice while you waited. I would definitely love to return to this property and be able to stay longer!

The Biltmore is a nice hoel located very close to U. Miami's campus. An old hotel, it has that dark wood, low light cavernous lobby but also has a spectaculsr, huge pool, which is really quite delightful (though not easy to find shade on a crowded sunny day.) Nice restaurants and gym. Only complaint - our room smelled dank and mildewy.

we just got back from hosting a destination wedding at the Biltmore Hotel. Not one of our 120 guests had a single complaint about the service which was offered to us throughout our stay in Florida. we came a long way from Connecticut and they made it worth it. the grounds are gorgeous and the rooms are not small and each with unique charm. each restaurant has fantastic food and the spa, despite being a bit pricey, offers AMAZING services at your convenience. i can't say enough how friendly the staff at this hotel were to all our guests. the pool is huge and the perfect place to relax all afternoon. it was the perfect place for the most gorgeous wedding i have ever seen.

Room Tip: i have been to this hotel on multiple occasions and all my rooms were clean and spacious.

We moved to the Miami area about 2 years ago and visited the Cascade Restaurant a few weeks ago so we decided to stay for a night as a "staycation". We checked in late (about 530pm) and their system was down. We stood there, in between two wedding cocktail hours, for about 15 minutes while they attempted to process our reservation. Then, we offered to go have a drink until the system came back up. By this time, we were extremely frustrated and the level of noise in the lobby was so bad, we just wanted to escape. We asked if they could hold our bags, and she instructed us to carry them over to the concierge, instead of asking someone to come take them for us. Not to mention, we valeted the car and no one offered to help us with our bags at that time, either. Not generally something I would expect from a hotel of this calibur.

After about two drinks each at the bar and 45 minutes later, we decided to go check and see if they could let us into the room. At that time, they agreed to let us in the room and just keep our credit card at the desk for processesing once their system was working. For the inconvenience, I was sure that would at least comp our drinks at the bar, but there was no offer to do so. We also ordered a bottle of champange and strawberries to be in the room upon arrival. It was not there.

The room was nice, although the airconditioning did not work very well. We stayed in a junior suite, which did not have a balcony. We would have prefered a balcony.

We called later in the night to order food and they mentioned that we were suppose to receive a bottle of champagne (the one that was suppose to be there upon arrival). We told them to go ahead and send it. To our dismay, we were double charged at that point, which took some arguing at check out, which will be discussed later in this review.

After leaving the room to go walk around the hotel, when we came back, we were locked out of the room and our cards would not work. We went down and she explained to us that if we keep the plastic cards next to cellphones, they will not work. So she re-programmed the card, and it still would not work, three attempts later, she finally sent a manager up to the room to let us in. He explained there was a problem with the privacy lock and that is why we were unable to get in. It was extremely frustrating.

Room service breakfast was okay. There was no coffee in the room, so we had to order a pot from room service. The pool was very nice, but our fun afternoon at the pool was ruined when we went to check out and we discovered we were double charged for the champagne. The girl at the front desk didn't take our word for it and called room service to check. Trust me, I do not need to lie to the front desk to get free bottles of veuve clicquot, so I thought this was offensive. Much to her surprise, we were double charged and she was able to cancel the charge.

The whole experience was disappointing. We thought it would be a nice getaway for one night, but I was thankful it was only one night and we were able to leave right away. We travel extensively and this was one of the worst hotels we have stayed in, hands down.

For the same price, we stayed at the Four Seasons in Palm Beach and loved every minute of it. Even the $50 a night hotel we stayed at while touring San Jose, Costa Rica, had much better service and the staff was more accomodating. We have never stayed at a hotel where there were such major problems with our stay and only received a "we are sorry for the inconvenience". We are sorry too.

Needless to say, we will not be going back.

This isolated incident is certainly not reflective of our normal standards or service culture at the Biltmore. We would welcome an opportunity to personally address these issues with this guest directly.

This is a landmark and you have to stay there at least once. My first time was 11 years ago and I am a regular ever since.
Amazing location, full of history and a lobby that makes you feel in a castle.
And the pool...ohhh the pool!
Tips:
1.easy free parking ( skip the expensive valet).
2. Don't forget to try the Sunday brunch, expensive but it's fantastic!
Nice bathrobe, mini bar, shower with good pressure.
The only downside: they need to catch up on TV sets, no HD yet.

It's always a pleasure to hear from our repeat guests. In regard to the comment on the TV sets, only a handful of rooms have yet to be updated with new flat screen models, of which we're on schedule to complete this fall.
