We just returned from a wonderful 4-night stay at the Biltmore Coral Gables, a charming old hotel with very nice amenities and an incredibly attentive staff. We travel fairly extensively, in pretty nice places & may have developed a bit of "hotel snobbery", & this was one of our favorite spots ever ... and an incredible deal.
I was attending a conference & my family decided to come along for the trip. We were upgraded to a suite & the room was very comfortable (nice, clean, etc). The hotel is imbued with history & charm, with beautiful architecture & attention to detail throughout the facility. Even the conference center is a perfect mix of historical charm and modern functionality.
The food was fantastic, from a wonderful dinner at Palme d'Or to the poolside service to the pastries in the cafe ... everything was prepared perfectly and really a quite amazing bargain for the very high quality.
The golf course is beautiful & well-kept ... though I do think the range balls are in need of a refresh (and if that's my biggest "complaint", I'd say they're doing a great job).
The facilities, the food, the pool, they're all wonderful ... but they pale in comparison to the staff. WIth the possible exception of a few (very small and much more expensive) boutique hotels and cruise lines we've enjoyed, I've never been anywhere that so many members of the staff went out of their way to go the extra mile and provide that extra touch of service (not to mention how many of them remembered & used my name throughout our stay). The best example was when my 13-year old son went to the front desk to ask a question & David recognized his resemblance to me & guessed his last name (and, our son had not been with me when we checked in, is not a "dead ringer" for me, and I had only met David once at that point). From David's service at the front desk to the bag attendants & starters on the golf course to the waiters at the restaurants & poolside, everyone seemed focused on doing whatever they could to enhance our stay.
This was our first trip to the Biltmore but it will certainly not be our last!
