If you are looking for something different, Hotel St Michel is different and different-good. While retaining its original charm and beauty from 1926, it is a cozy place to stay and more fun than many of the standard hotels I stayed in. As you approach, you notice the ivy growing on the wedge shaped corner lot building. The front door is heavy oak with fine detailed carvings. A tiny reception with the original switchboard behind the counter and the original beautiful old manually operated elevator is still used (It does require someone to operate it.) A very helpful clerk who even walked us up to the room and opened it with a traditional key.
The hotel is furnished throughout with antiques (not just "old furniture").
We had a corner room which was lovely. Despite being on a busy road the windows are well insulated so no noise. The room was extremely clean with wooden floors, really comfortable bed and thick curtains that keep out the light, also a very quiet and effective a/c. Very fast and free WiFi.
The only minor let down was that there was no writing desk.
The hotel was perfectly located for our business needs. The staff was friendly.
The hotel doesn't seem to belong in Coral Gables, but it sure is a nice place to stay.
Do NOT stay here if you require a chain hotel or resort, Stay only if you like small, interesting hotels with very friendly staff.
