I've been to Gregory's in the past and have even given it a pretty good review, but after last night I just don't know anymore.
Granted, it was Valentine's Day, but that is no excuse to add extra tables to and overbook your restaurant for the night. That just reeks of low class to me.
We arrived about fifteen minutes before our reservation and took a seat at the bar. They had one bartender working for entire place and were only asked if we would like a drink right before we were told that our table was ready (after we were ignored for ten minutes).
When we were seated, our table was so close to the other tables on each side that I had to walk around the row of tables to get to the other side of our table (to be honest, I was planning on spending Valentine’s Day with my wife, not the older couple to my right and the lonely dude reading the sports section to my left). We were not approached by any staff member until ten minutes after we sat down, and that was just to bring us some water.
After another ten minutes our server finally came to take our order. Since our table was so close to our neighbors, she had to take our order over my wife's shoulder. My wife ordered a grilled chicken Caesar salad and a margarita. Our server then asked her what kind of dressing she wanted on that (well, Caesar, of course - she ordered a Caesar salad - Duh) and if she wanted salt on her margarita. When I ordered the Delmonico - a ribeye steak from the menu - the server asked me if I wanted the sirloin or the ribeye - well, the ribeye, of course - Duh!
So after about another ten minutes of not seeing anyone, our server comes over asks my wife (again, over her shoulder) what type of beer she had ordered. Well, it was a margarita and the server should have known that since she asked if my wife wanted salt with it.
Were no clairvoyants, but we could see where this evening was going. Sixty plus dollars for both our entrees and what looked like ninety minutes with the lonely dude and the old couple on Valentine’s Day. No Thanks. We left and went down A1A to Thai Thai - it wasn't crowded, the food was good and the service was great.
Next Valentine's Day we'll know better.
