My husband and I went with our young son to eat here today as part of our fun day out. The original restaurant we aimed for was closed, so we ended up at Taco City instead.
The place is rustic and not too much to look at, but the place was friendly and the food was good. You order at the desk, then sit down at your booth or table while your food is being prepared. In the mean time, you enjoy the typical chips and salsa. When your meal is ready, a loud bell is rung, your name is called and you go and pick up your tray. So it's kind of like fast food, but there is no rushing here.
The food is simple. It's favorite mexican dishes Tex Mex style. My husband enjoyed the burrito and I enjoyed the enchilada/chili relleno combo plate. The chili relleno as particularly delicious. They used a beer batter to fry it in instead of the standard corn meal batter. This was quite tasty.
My son had the chicken and fries kids platter. No frills here. Deep fried dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets that I recognized from Tyson foods. Deep frying them made them good, but they were slightly overdone. What should have been a golden brown crust was more like just brown and near burnt.
The ladies room was in decent order, but one can see some disrepair from heavy use. Otherwise it was clean and in useable condition.
The biggest drawback for me: I was not too fond of finding a squashed dead roach in the main dining area.
For a fun lunch for adults, Taco City is OK.
