“SMOKE FREE ENVIRONMENT not enforced by this hotel!”

Courtyard by Marriott Cocoa Beach

Jul 15, 2008

We stayed for three nights over the 4th of July weekend. July 3 -6, 2008. The room was clean and we were given a 5th floor room with balcony and limited ocean view.

My problem with this location was the small pool area with a concentrated number of people around it smoking. I moved my small children away from one smoker and then the next. Unable to escape all the puffers, I finally complained to the front desk. She shrugged her shoulders and said since the pool was outdoors guests were free to do what they want.

It was a hot, windless day with many trees surrounding the pool area. The smoke did not dissipate and was detectable no matter where one tried to swim that day.

I was really disgusted by the fact that the hotel had three large signs posted at various locations boldly proclaiming, "100% SMOKE FREE ENVIRONMENT".

Obviously it is not enforced in shared public areas, especially those occupied by families and small children. Courtyard by Marriot should not advertise a smoke free environment and then allow such behavior. Designated outdoor smoking areas should be established for guests away from common public areas.

Stayed 6/27 to 6/30. Friendly staff, nicely landscaped and clean grounds, restaurant okay (only had breakfast buffet), short walk to beach. Family of 4. Standard room with 2 queen beds. Hotel is clean, not your typical beach front hotel with lots of sand all over the property probably because you have to walk about 150 yards to beach. Can rent umbrellas / chairs on beach where walkway meets beach. 2 computers in lobby with internet access. If you want a "beach" view (between condos) try to stay on floors 5 -7 on the north side of the building. South side views the pool and the Hampton Inn and west side views A1A. Property set back from road so was quiet. Would stay again.
Only complaints would be the pool could use a little more chlorine and IMO a guy playing music on Saturday afternoon poolside is not needed. I would have enjoyed the piped in music or no music better, but that is just a personal preference.
WARINING! Glass containers are not allowed on beach. Saw a Cocoa Beach cop give someone a ticket for glass container. Alcohol okay, just not glass containers.

Many of the hotels in Cocoa Beach are old and beat up by a combination of time and family beach traffic. The Courtyard is one of the few that you can safely book online knowing that their will be no shock on arrival as often is the case elsewhere. It delivers what most travelers expect when a resort area is their travel destination. The rooms are large, modern, well appointed and clean. Don't be fooled by the pictures of other "beach resorts" in Cocoa area - the Courtyard delivers on its promises.

The hotel is gorgeous and the staff was very helpful. They gave us a beautiful room on the 6th floor that had an ocean view and a balcony. We had asked for an early check in as we had arrived at 8 am on a red eye flight. We got our rental car and drove to Cocoa Beach from Orlando. Had breakfast, slept in the car for about an hour and then went to the hotel to see about changing into swimsuits to go to the beach while waiting for a room. By the time we had gone in and changed into our suits, our room was ready. The beach access is a nice path. If you want to rent chairs and an umbrella, check at the front desk so that they can call and have the person meet you at the beach. Everything was clean. They even have a person serving mixed drinks and wine. I would definitely stay there again without hesitation. Make sure you go to the Dixie Crossroads for Seafood. It was the best seafood that my husband and I had ever tasted.

“Reunion Weekend”

I was in Cocoa Beach for my 40th high school Reunion which was held at this hotel.

My second floor room was large and comfortable with a nice private lanai. The bed was plush, the bathroom was large, well vented and supplied with nice amenities.

The ballroom where the reunion was held was large and well equipped for our function. The food was well prepared but the cash bar was pricey. The on site restaurant was also a bit pricey but cheaper fare was available within a very reasonable walk.

Ron John's Surf shop is only a couple of blocks to the north and that alone is always worth the trip to Cocoa Beach.

The pool was a real plus. It has the attraction of being partially shaded by Oak trees for those of us who are fair skinned.
