We booked this stay from Norway before we flew over for a nice vacation. As we had hired a Mustang Convertible to drive from Key West up to Washington, it was quite a cool trip, with stops in Miami the night before Billie Swamp Safari and Cape Canaveral with Kennedy space center the following days. So it was a trip full of contrasts from "jet set" life via The Swamp and wild animals to high tech space adventure. The Billie swamp safari was absolutely great. We arrived apx. 1130 in the morning, and just in time for the first ride with a buggy. The guide was a man with loads of knowledge and humour, and made the trip really interesting. We saw lots of animals both local and imported. They seem to take pride in treating all the animals with great respect and care. They even bring in a vet to check on the animals 3 or 4 times a year. A fantastic achievement with consideration to all the animals they have there. After the buggy ride we headed straight for the airboat rides. That was one of the most hillerious rides I have been on for a long time. I have been
in aircraft looping and doing acro. This was a feeling like notthing else that I' ve experienced. Litterally flying through the swamps. Great. Then the driver slowed down, and shouted "Aligator" We stopped the boat and the gator came up close to check us out. After looking close at this lone gator for a short while, we continued up the swamp. We saw 3 curious Raccoons running beside us at the shore. They were so cute. Then we stopped the boat again and was immediatly surrounded by 8-10 gators. They were coincidentaly just lying under some trees were the birds recently had their babybirds in their nests. Some of them accidentaly fell in the water. That's life..
After this fantastic ride we went to the critter show. Also fun. Later that evening we had storytelling and a buggy tour in the dark night,.
This time we seemed to be the only ones spending the night, so for both the last adventures there were only the four of us and the guide. A superb experience as well.
We slept in the small cabins, with nothing more than two beds.
This is not the place to drink loads of beer before going to bed, as there is quite a distance to walk in to the center with restrooms, in almost complete darkness. If you go, and plan to stay overnight, remember to bring a flashlight. After a good nights sleep, even in the cacofony of wild animals, that sounded just as loud as a highway, we woke up to find an aligator had slept just under the huts balcony during the night. It came back after a little swim to say hello again, and we spent a little while talking to him, befor going for breakfast. My wife went before the others, and just in front of her an otter jumped out of the bushes heading for the water. After breakfast it was time to pack the car again and head out for new adventures. Now looking back, this is one of the adventures we remember the most from the whole trip. I do reccomend it to everyone, looking for a different experience closer to nature. I we have the oppurtunity we'd like to go back.
