Inn at Summer Bay

Ok, so we purchased a vacation package through Westgate Resorts and in turn we "Paid" for our "Gift" - a 3 night stay in Orlando. That should of been our first clue... Who pays for a freaking gift??? Us dummies obviously. Anyway, Westgate Resorts are the real dummies here. Instead of our "paid for" gift being in a Westgate Resort they gave us a certificate for our "Getaway". It was a certificate via "Millenium Travel" who booked us at Summer Bay Resorts via their "Welcome Center". No one could confirm our reservations until the Friday before we were to arrive and we were already out of pocket nearly $300 after the initial $99 purchase, the $50 Deposit, $65 Surcharges and additional Certified & Priority Mailing Fees (7.25x4). Oh, I forgot to mention, the taxes, etc. oh and the $6 a day resort fee. (My thought is why would Westgate who is trying to sell us a timeshare, send us to a competitor?? Duh??)

So you think they would of put us at the resort considering they are trying to sell us on the timeshare idea. Not on your life, they dumped us at the Inn at Summer Bay across the street. We walked in and it smelled musty, however we were so tired, that we just unloaded and got on our way with the kids. It wasn't until we got back and started winding down, that we realized the place not only looked like a dump, it was one. We tried the remote, it didn't work, batteries didn't help it, we reported it. 2 hours later I went to iron my clothes for the next mornings sales bonanza they suck you into attending. Well there was some gross blue stuff adhered to the iron. So I attempted to clean it off with a wet washcloth cloth and instead of something gooey and gross it was hard plastic that had no intention of moving. I went to the front desk with the iron and attempted to ask for a replacement where I was not even greeted by the lovely and rude Daniella. (I forgot to mention this was the same girl that continuously hung up on me when trying to confirm my reservations the week before-you cannot forget the dull unhappy voice). No effort on her part to fix the problem except that I would have to wait until the morning so I put on my witch with a capital B suit and she got on the phone with the maintenance guy and he eventually came with a new iron when I asked him about the remote. It wasn't until then he fixed it reprogrammed it, whatever he did, it started working.

So your thinking this is nothing... We finely go into the bathroom to take our showers and we are greeted by Mold Mold & Mold... I sucked it up and took my shower, then I laid down in the creeky paper thin bed that was leaning and noticed spots throughout the ceiling... The room was filled with mold..... Because the Welcome Center Closes at 10pm, we were stuck sleeping there until the next morning. I spoke with the morning desk person and showed her the pics of the mold and explained to her the problems with Daniella the night before. She directed me to the welcome center who directed me to Mr. Smith at the Summer Bay Resort Club House. He did right the wrong of this entire fiasco and put us up at the Holiday Inn at the resort the remainder of our stay, but more than 1/2 the day was wasted and we dished out another $130 bucks to stay an extra night so my kids could have a full day at the theme parks. So far this trip has cost us approx. $200 more than it would have if we just purchased our tickets and hotel through the Universal Studios website itself. Stay away from Summer Bay Resorts, Inn @ Summer Bay, Westgate Resorts and Millenium Travel if you want to avoid headaches, frustration, salesmen/women, etc.

Keep your Sanity and book through Universal and/or Disney themsleves - they are legit! I haven't loaded the pics to my pc yet, but will be happy to later this weekend or sometime next week.

Inn at Summer Bay

Wow...just wow. It has been about 4 months since I stayed at this place, and I'm still angry. The marketing team at Summer Bay is VERY deceptive. They intentionally created a deceptive ad and placed it on Hotels.com. They make it seem as if you're booking a room at the nice resort, when in fact you're booking the roach motel across the street. Only one short sentence in the fine print explains this to you. If I told the whole story, you would be reading this review for a very long time, so I'll try to shorten it up.

We arrived late. Security guard in front of Summer Bay Resort wouldn't allow us inside the Resort and said our "reservations" were across the street. We went to the "Inn" at Summer Bay, which is located next to a pawn shop. We were not allowed to enter the lobby because the doors were locked. The only way to make contact with the receptionist was to go to the side of the building (near the dark, poorly lit alley and pawn shop), and to knock on the seemingly bullet proof plexi-glass window. We asked for a room across the street, and we were told to call the Resort. We called the Resort and waited on hold for over 30 minutes. When we were able to make contact with a rep, he told us they were "fully booked" and we would have to stay at the "Inn." We sucked it up and figured it was a lesson learned. When we entered the room, we found one live cockroach on the wall, one dead cockroach next to the second twin bed, and what appeared to be an insects severed leg on the bed sheets. The next morning, we were woken up at 8:00 am in the morning by a guy at the front desk who tried selling us a time share. After telling him about our bad experience, I tried to take a shower, to find that the shower head came up to the middle of my chest. I'm 5 foot 10, not tall by any means. I had to get on my knees in order to shampoo my hair. It almost appeared as if the shower had been built for little people.

When we checked out of the "Inn" (it's actually a motel that was most likely a Motel 8 before it was bought by Summer Bay), we found two families in the lobby yelling at the receptionist. After talking briefly with them, they explained how Summer Bay misled them as well into believing they would be staying at the Resort across the street.

We ended up going to a Days Inn the next night. The room was $20 cheaper, had a MUCH cleaner room, and was miles closer to our final destination (Sea World.) Avoid this motel, and this company, at all costs if you don't like being conned.

We booked our trip through Hotwire. After reading the reviews we were a bit nervous. When we checked in at about 8:00pm we were given two card keys and a room number. I went to the room opened the door and there was another couple in the room. I couldn't believe it. I immediately went to the front desk and explained what happened. He just said he was sorry and acted like no big deal. How do you give a room key to somebody elses room? I could have been shot! When getting a key to our next room, we noticed that the dead bold didn't line up, so it wouldn't lock. So here we are in a hotel room that give out keys to the wrong rooms and no way to lock our door. Needless to say we put a chair and our luggage in front of the door, just in case he gave somebody else our room key. Wouldn't stay again.

Don't go there! The staff is VERY rude, not helpful at all. The room was ok for the price. Hopefully you will not need to ask directions, ask about restaurants, or ask about things to do. Although the staff says they live in the area, they know NOTHING!!!!!

My wife booked a stay through Summer Bay Resorts Time Share promotion, for $100/night. We were told that our accommodations would not be determined until we arrived. We wrongly assumed that it would be at one of the 2 timeshare properties, and during the reservation process, no options were given. I would rate this hotel a 1.5 star, damp, poorly draining tub, and would never stay here. An advanced AAA rate for this hotel was only $71.00 We checked out the next day, and when we went to reservation center, they stated that we stayed at the least expensive property and could upgrade us to Holiday Express for an additional $40 or their resort property (2 bedroom condo) for $75. The latter was good. The time share presentation was very, very pushy and in your face. ( I have been to prior time share presentations) I would avoid this organization like the plague. The package was definitely not worth the money or hassle.
