My wife booked a stay through Summer Bay Resorts Time Share promotion, for $100/night. We were told that our accommodations would not be determined until we arrived. We wrongly assumed that it would be at one of the 2 timeshare properties, and during the reservation process, no options were given. I would rate this hotel a 1.5 star, damp, poorly draining tub, and would never stay here. An advanced AAA rate for this hotel was only $71.00 We checked out the next day, and when we went to reservation center, they stated that we stayed at the least expensive property and could upgrade us to Holiday Express for an additional $40 or their resort property (2 bedroom condo) for $75. The latter was good. The time share presentation was very, very pushy and in your face. ( I have been to prior time share presentations) I would avoid this organization like the plague. The package was definitely not worth the money or hassle.

We stayed for 3 nights, July 11-14, 2006 and expected the worst after reading some reviews here. The Inn at Summer Bay is basically a remodeled Motel 8 type place that is across the highway from the "real" Summer Bay Resort. Our room was decent and included a microwave, cold refrigerator, working A/C unit and T.V. and a small coffee maker. We did not spend a lot of time in the room as we were out during the days until early evening, but the bed was quite comfortable and the shower and ample towels provided were good enough for the two of us. However, the "90 minute" Time Share presentation we were require to attend in order to get the special room rate was a different deal. We spent 3 hours before finally getting out of there. If you don't want a Time Share, be mentally prepared to say so before attending. There were a few slick sales tactics they try to pull on you, including the final "customer critique" with a sales agent who tried one last time to get you. Regarding the comment about the Inn not being convenient to any Orlando attraction, everything in Orlando is spread out and you'll need a rental car to get from place to place. The Inn at Summer Bay wasn't all that much out of the way. If I had a choice, I'd stay elsewhere on my next visit, but it wasn't a nightmare stay by any means either.

“Not a 3 star as per Hotwire”

I booked this hotel through hotwire and once the name was displayed I came to this site to see what the other reviews were like. I'm glad I did as it helped prepare me as my expectations were lowered (again based on the 3 star hotwire rating). The room was basic and clean. I would have expected this to be a 1 to 2 star rating. The sink area was nice and large and the towels were very nicely folded not what you'd expect at this type of a place. The lobby left a lot to be desired and the whole place could use a remodel. Frankly it reminded me of a Motel6/Super8 from 15-20 years ago. So if you simply need a place to lay your head it's okay but don't expect much.

The one thing that did make up for my disappointment was a great restaurant that was next to the property. In fact it was so good I went there two days in a row and would have gone more if i wasn't leaving. The name is Mekong and they serve 3 different cuisines. Vietnamese, Thai and Chinese. I really like Thai food but decided to try the Vietnamese dishes. My lunch was so tasty and fresh. I had the fried pork rice dish which came with an excellent dipping sauce that was tasty but light. The next day I had Lemon Grass Chicken which was also very flavorful yet very light on the palate. Next time I'm in the area I'll try the Pad Thai as that is said to be delicious.

People also rave about the Thai food and there were quite a few great write ups about the restaurant displayed in the window. Actually that's what got me to go in the first time. I also heard that the Thai Ice tea was good and decided to try it. It was not your regular iced tea but was more like a flavored fruit drink yet it too was not heavy. I’ve heard it said the French influence on the cooking contributes to this.

The owner was very pleasant and the staff were friendly and sincere. I could also tell that she has repeat customers as I could hear the comments as they left. Lastly the meals were very reasonably priced and the portions were satisfying. If you are anywhere near the area try the food and you won't be disappointed.

p.s. The restrooms were spotless always a good sign in a restuarant

They have a web site so I'll include the link here.

WARNING!! The Summer Bay Staff from the Orlando location to the customer service reps at 1-800-STAY-VIP are rude and not willing to help. My wife and I were not expecting top quality when we booked our "Time share" stay with Summer Bay, but we were expecting a decent room that we could sleep in. The first night we were at the Inn at Summer Bay we had insects in our bed. Did anyone care? NO! We spoke with several people on staff with Summer Bay on this night and no one would help or offer us anything else. They told us we had to stay and basically to deal with it. My wife and I were both treated bad to say the least.

Our room had a bad smoke odor even though we were supposedly in a non-smoking room.

There will be an extra charge when you check out that they forget to tell you about until you are ready to leave. My wife and I could not wait to leave Summer Bay property.

“don't buy anything!”

Inn at Summer Bay

these guys are so deceptive! we bought a vacation package that was supposed to include tickets to universal studios, islands of adventure, citywalk, and disneyland. well, you don't need tickets for citywalk, any one can go, it's just a bunch of resterants&shops. and we acutally got to choose one of either universal or the islands, and we could get a discount on disney tickets. the vacation package we paid for also promised passes to kennedy space center, but when i asked for them i was told they were only included if we went to daytona beach. we were given the option ft. lauderdale or cocoa beach, daytona was never mentioned. they said our only obigation was to attend a 90 min. sales presentation. we attended a 90 min. presentation, as well as a two hour presentation (we took the hotel shuttle to the presentation and when it was over we were told the shuttle wouldn't be back for 2 more hours!) and then yet another "90 min." one, but we had to wait for a sales person to finsh with someone else first, so we atually killed about 4 hours there. the "free breakfast buffet" is donuts. also, we did not stay in the resort that we thought we were paying for, the shuttles they provide are not free as implied by the telemarketer, the hotel in ft. lauderdle smelled bad, and the orlando welcome center is not in orlando.
