“Good place to relax”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2012

We loved Summer Bay. Everyone was polite and happy to help us. The service was great. We stayed in the Villas which was a comfortable walk to the Clubhouse and bars/restaurants. The villas were very clean and roomy. The only thing that would have been better would have been wifi in the Villa....we went to the Clubhouse for free wifi. One member of our party paid for the wifi in the Villa but it only worked in one small area of a bedroom. When he called the provider (not Summer Bay itself) to report this his money was returned but they did not turn off the wifi so he did have use of it throughout the week. We will be going back to Summer Bay.

Room Tip: Single rooms are the farthest from the Clubhouse. Villas and condos are great.

We stayed at Summer Bay the week of April 28-May 5 and had a wonderful time. We had two 2 bdrm condos in bldg 405 and both were clean, spacious and comfortable. Admitted the kitchen wasn't overly stocked for cooking large meals but we had all we needed to cook basic meals like tacos and spaghetti. We were on the third/top floor of the building and had neighbors on both sides yet we rarely heard any noise through the walls.

We didn't participate in the time share presentation so I can't comment on that but the sales staff wasn't overly pushy in trying to get us to participate.

We were provided a "starter kit" of essentials which included enough dish detergent for the week, Tide/Bouce to do one load of laundry, 2 extra garbage bags, 2 rolls of paper towels and a total of 4 rolls of toilet paper. We had 4 people in our condo and 2 in the other condo in our group nad the only thing we needed extra of was toilet paper.

The pools were plentiful and warm. The only "pool" that wasn't heated was the kid's splash park and I will admit that it was pretty cold so we steered clear of it. The playgrounds were nice too. We didn't participate in any of the crafts/activities. We had enough fun swimming and going to Disney that we didn't need to.

The mini golf course was relatively challenging, fairly priced and there were fans strategically placed so we didn't get too hot (granted we played in the evening so it wasn't all that hot outside either.)

The lake water was chilly but the sandy beach was very nice. It was nice, soft, white sand (imported from Clearwater according to the info provided.)

We did take advantage of the shuttle to Disney. We took the first shuttle at 8:05 AM. The shuttle was prompt but my only complaint was that it made stops at all of the parks with Magic Kingdom being the last stop--so it took about an hour to get to Magic Kingdom. That being said, the shuttle back to the resort at the end of the night was at 11:15 and it was again very prompt and went directly back to the resort with no stops. I still think it beat driving and paying $14 for parking and fighting traffic to get "home". Driving your car to Disney took about 20 minutes.

There were lots of restaurants and shops close to the resort (within 5 minutes)--Olive Garden, Carrabas, Logan's steakhouse, Joe's Crabshack, Chic-fil-a, etc. The Target down the street had a fair amount of souveniers for much cheaper than Disney (i.e. tshirts for $9 vs $29 at Disney.) There was also a Walgreens and two Publix grocery stores.

We found the grounds/pools were well tended. Every day I saw people cleaning the common areas, grills, bathrooms and refreshing the towels around the pool (they never ran out although the pool towels were not exactly "large".)

I've stayed in motels/hotels ranging from two starts to five stars. I wouldn't call the rooms/linens "luxury" (i.e. no down comforters or 600 count sheets) but they were comforatable, clean, modern and well cared for.

I'd go back in a heartbeat and would definitely recommend this place to family and friends.

Room Tip: Buildings in the 500's are close to the Big Kahuna pool bar and the best pool on the complex. We...

Stayed here during mid-late October last year on a last minute holiday as our flights to Cyprus became unavailable. Despite it being a late find, we were not disappointed.

Check-in was relatively quick upon arrival, with the staff being extremely polite and delivering great service, something which is probably less common in the UK. Entering out apartment we were very impressed with the quality of the furnishings and the space. Although they weren't that attractive from the outside, on the inside they were well equipped and really comfortable.

The resort itself was great. The pool and jacuzzi were fantastic not to mention the lake beach. Even though it was autumn, the water was warm and there was still plenty of activity down there. My sons paid to use the inflatables on the lake and this kept them well occupied, as well as hiring fishing equipment. Jet skis were also available, as was a free water taxi from the pier to a neighbouring hotel were time-share meetings took place. Other facilities included table tennis, a pool bar and tennis courts.

In conclusion, we had a very good experience. The staff were excellent, the facilities very good and the apartment was perfectly equipped to our needs (although the sofa bed wasn't particularly comfortable, but they never are wherever you go!). There was a Walmart nearby for shopping as well as a Publix and Dennys. Close to the theme parks (30 min drive), and both coastlines aren't too far away. Would recommend as a really good value experience.

Room Tip: Some apartments are located around a pool with play areas, this may be better for families with youn...

We booked our stay at the Summer Bay Resort thru Veterans Holidays so we are not part of the time share users at the Summer Bay Resort.

We were there for 1 week. The resort is beautiful and they have tons of things to do. Hhowever, they nagged us about going thru a timeshare demo daily which was a huge turn off. We got our first call to take part in their timeshare presentation at 9:30pm the first night. We kindly told them that we had the entrie stay planned out and would not have time to participate in the meeting. I thought that took care of it, but none the less, I got another call at 9am the next morning from another hotel member. I again told them we would not have time to participate and that I had told the other staff member that last night. We continued to get calls every morning, sometimes several times a day until we checked out.
After the second call we stopped answering the phone.

Other tips about the resort, the store is way over priced. We paid $4 for a dozen eggs, you have to pay to play on the lake toys (which by the way...the lake has alligators in it!), and you do not get a towel exchange or room cleaning on a daily basis unless you pay extra for it. We opted to just wash our towels in the condo our selves.

Besides the little things, it was worth the money we paid for the condo. The nice thing was that you had all the ammenities of your home right there. If I did have to worry about sales people trying to get me to buy into a timeshare I would have enjoyed it more. Which by the way they communicate it as a free breakfast or lunch with a short 90 minute presentation.

We arranged our stay via an RCI exchange. Our family of 4 greatly enjoyed our stay and since we were in town to hit Disney, SeaWorld etc the location is second only to being in Disney...being physically separated from the Disney complex by a maybe 0.5 mile as the crow flies. Rt 192 has plenty of cheesy gift shops, mini golf, restaurants of all sorts and all that is typical of the main drag of a resort town.

Our room was quite spacious with a large master suite with whirlpool tub and walk in shower. The guest room had dual full sized beds. The living room had a comfortable couch, if screen LCD tv and a dining table. The kitchen was stocked with typical utensils, pots/pans/bowels etc. The unit offered a spacious deck with outdoor furniture overlooking the lake. The front of the unit went to parking lot and located right next to the reaort's mini golf course (which I could not keep my 3yr old away from).

The resort offered several different pool areas, of which we visited all but 1. The pool area at the clubhouse is likely the busiest, but the area by Big Kahuna's bar and grill was the best...with water spray features, a large zero entry area and areas that wind around a central island. The resort offers a splash pad for kids which is quite nice however it's not heated so my son didn't much care for it. The pool area next to the clubhouse also has a sandy beach area with bouncy water playground and jet ski/boat etc rentals. The bouncy play area and rentals of course are at an extra charge. There is also fishing on the lake, which is quite pretty. Each of the 2 largest pools have bar and food. My boy loved the fries while his mom preferred a frozen beverage!

As with all timeshare resorts this one has an optional sales presentation. We decided to skip it despite the offer of breakfast and $100 gift card.

Check in was easy; all the staff throughout our stay were easily identifiable, friendly and polite. Room was comfortable and clean, I did a thorough inspection upon our arrival and wad pleasantly suprised with the results. The unit was pretty well equipped, though a baking sheet would've been helpful. We cooked 6 days out of 7, so easy to do with the Publix right there. The unit was maintenance issue free and the grounds well-kept. Loved the choice of 4 pools, lots of activities for everyone, we never left the resort. Internet is pretty common and was a little disappointed with the lack of it outside the lobby. But it was probably a good thing we got out and about more than if we'd had it in our room. Overall, I would return. I really liked that it was gated and in a good location.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo. The decorating was very nice. The people were super friendly and helpful. It was nice to have a bar and grill within walking distance in the gated community as well as a pool just out the back of the building we stayed in (there are 5 pools on the property). Our only complaint was the hard mattress, but I guess that's great for some people. It was within 6 miles of Disney, so it was easy travelling and everything was nearby. We ended up buying a timeshare and can't wait to go back!
