“I should have gone with my instincts...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

We stayed here after checking out the reviews and receiving a group rate as part of a local event. I should have gone with my instincts and spent an extra $30 to stay down the road at a competitor. The pictures tend to fool you because when you get to the actual property located next to busy Hwy 19, you instinctively realize they are trying to make an old property look better than it actually is. The swimming pool had green slime growing on the side of the walls, the pump didn't appear to be running because the water was stagnate in the deep end with a film of slime resembling baby oil floating on the surface?? The property is less than appealing with chipped paint and dirty surfaces. The room appears clean when you walk in with it's bright white sheets and dark-dark carpet. Look closely at the mold growing between the shower tiles and use your best judgement when it just doesn't smell good! If you shut the door to the bathroom, the a/c sound escalates because the return is shut off. We had to prop the door open to keep the room quiet. The hotel accommodates people living there with weekly rates. I traveled with my family and didn't feel safe or clean. Jumped up bright and early to get checked out quickly, and they charged me $20 for a pet that I didn't have, I think it's a gimmick because he folded up the invoice and handed it to me and didn't think I would look at it until I was gone. Never again, beware travelers.

A little difficult to find without satnav. It is in a complex just of Gulf to Bay blvd close to the junction with US19.
These are 2 busy roads but the hotel is surprisingly quiet. The room was clean and reasonably well decorated. The bathroom was clean and modern with with separate washbasin/shaving point.
The hotel was not too busy when we visited, not sure if the pool would be big enough when in full season. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. Special thanks to Mayur on reception.
Breakfast was poor. The cooked options were scrambled eggs and pancakes. Fruit was orange segmants or tinned mixed fruit. Restaurant menu looked good and well priced, but breakfast presentation put me off. Plenty of cheap places to eat along Gulf to bay blvd.
The bar was comfortable with friendly customers and staff.
Though this is in the centre of a commercial complex it is insulated from it. There were several places to eat within walking distance, and Clearwater beach is a very easy 15 minute drive. Tampa international is fairly easy to get to as well.

Very friendly and courteous staff. Close to shopping and restaurants. Minutes to beaches and attraction. Comfortable, adjustable firmness beds. TV was very blurry the first day, but cleared up the second day. Not a bad thing, because we didn't spend much time watching TV. Great value and pet friendly.

We stayed at this hotel in March, and reserved a suite. Our suite had two double beds (sleep number), with a separate bath and living area. There was a wall between the bedroom and living area, but the door was very thin, and the wall didn't go all the way to the ceiling (it stopped about a foot from the top). This was ok, except for the fact that we had our 14 month old daughter with us. Since the wall didn't go all the way to the ceiling, she woke up every time we made a peep in the bedroom. If you've got children who will sleep through anything, I wouldn't worry about it, but if you have kids that are easily woken, this might not be the hotel suite for you. The room was clean, although a bit outdated, and the fridge and microwave were nice. Also, the breakfast was really great (real hot food, as opposed to the instant type food usually served at continental breakfasts), so that was nice. We didn't use the pool, but it looked nice, too. It was definitely a good place for the price, but, it would be a lot better if they just made a few small adjustments.

All my kids wanted to do on their visit to Florida was see Winter the dolphin at Clearwater Marine Aquarium, the star of the movie Dolphin Tale. I was vacationing on the ocean side of Florida and made a two day trip over to the gulf for the visit. Location was great, only 5 miles from CMA and 6 miles from beach, and a straight shot there. You just needed to learn the back way in and out of the hotel to avoid heavy traffic. Spring the extra 10 dollars or so for a suite, your room door is then inside a hallway unlike the regular rooms which have an old style motel entrance with room door going right outside. Breakfast was fine, nothing bad, nothing special, but remember it is included in your price, probably saved me 20 dollars. Carpet in my room was a little dated but another room in our traveling party had newer carpeting, room was big and spacious and had plenty of room, in room fridge, extra bar sink, two flat screens televisions. Would definitely stay here again, great value for the dollar. Remember it is not the Ritz but a very good mid range hotel.

Great hotel for the price, I looked for an affordable hotel that would be decent to stay in and the Clarion looked like the right fit.
The landscaping was great and the lobby is very nice, they have suites in the front of the hotel and regular rooms in the back that are open making it look like a motel, we didn't mind though since the they all look out to the pool and hot tub. The hot tub was not "hot" more like lukewarm.

There are no elevators in the back part of the hotel so we had to lug our baggage up to the second floor. We were good sports about it though.

They did a great job of cleaning our room except the cleaning person would wake us up very early in the morning trying to clean, after the second time we learned to put the "do not disturb" on our door.
Overall the stay was ok until time of checkout. We used one card for check in and checked out and payed with another card. When we got home we saw that they had charged us three separate times. I've been back and forth with my bank and the hotel trying to get this taken care of and they are very unaccommodating! This has been a nightmare and a horrible way to end my trip.

Location is great.Central to alot of activities.Good restaurants,Super Target,Lowes across the street.Main lobby looks nice.Makes you think ok...i made a good choice. The room was a little bit of a let down though. It was just ok.The down comforter is nice but very worn. The sleep number bed is a plus. The microwave and fridge is a plus. The old fashioned folding door closet was a lil hard to open and close. The bathroom was very spacious. The biggest i've seen in a hotel room. Our room was clean and stocked nicely each day.The breakfast buffet was the reason i chose this place but after our week long stay,i learned what time to come...either early or late in the am.It could get very crowded and no seating left. The buffet food was good.Eggs, pancakes, cereal and toast .I heard almost everyone asking where the bacon or sausage was...lol.it was a bit of a let down. There was no yogart, but a fruit tray with canned fruit.Coffee was not bad.A few days things ran out,one day almost all ran out,but the poor woman was working her butt off.
The pool area was nice, tropical but not quite as big as the pics make it look. But clean and well kept. All in all this hotel is good, but i think with a few small upgrades it could be awesome.

Room Tip: they do weekly rates here.you can save a ton of $ by requesting it and get a suite instead of a room...
