“Relaxed and casual”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

We have just come back from a two week trip to Florida, with one of these weeks spent here at the Sand Key Sheraton.
This was our second stay at this hotel which goes to show what we think of this hotel.
Now the location is stunning, the staff are lovely and friendly.
The place seems to be undergoing a bit of a makeover including new carpets in the rooms.
We had to ask for an in room fridge, which one might expected to have been in a room in a hotel of this standard.
The pool area was lovely and relaxed and of course the cocktail bar was in an ideal place near the pool.
The food served by poolside cafe however is worth missing.
Sadly this hotel seems to be mainly aimed at the business user. The refit or refurb seems a bit bland and boring. The bar is stark and again bland leaving you somewhat cold.
That all said, we had a lovely time and will be back.
But Sheraton.... Please please put some character back into the hotel.

We just returned from our 5 day stay at this property. It really has to be one of the friendliest and most accomodating properties we have ever stayed in. We were not lacking for anything. We were on the club level and the food was great every morning. Plus having the extra area to relax and read or just look at the views was fantastic. The bed was very comfortable and we felt the property was very clean. The only reason I did not give it an excellent is because I would have to agree that our room could use some updating but the homey atmosphere really made up for it. We would definitely go back.

I was there for one night preceding the
2012 Susan G Komen 3-day walk for the Cure. This was my second stay and both times..everyone was more than friendly and showed great support for those of us that were walking. The room was very nice and I had a view of the beach. I had dinner in the lounge and the soup and sandwich I had were very flavorful and Florida. Very nice area too

Room Tip: Most rooms probably have a water view as there is water on both sides.

We were also fortunately at the Sand Key at the time of the Suncoast Jazz Festival which was great. The firemens' convention preceding it, less so.
I can only endorse previous reviewers comments as to the friendliness of the staff. We felt welcomed by everyone, without exception. Jerry at the front desk was extremely helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. The pool staff are terrific, particularly Dave, who is a real asset to the Hotel. He seems to be fighting a continual battle with "poolcrashers" who can easily access the pool area from the car park, pay for a drink at the pool bar, then feel entitled to a free day using the pool, hot tub and beach. The Hotel Management should really sort this out.
On a less positive note, the Hotel seems really "tired" and in need of some cosmetic attention. In fairness, this seemed to be underway at the time of our visit. The carpets are really quite "grungy". Our room came as a bit of a shock, particularly the fact that the washbasin is in the bedroom, and the bathroom is very small, with just a small bathtub (overhead shower) and toilet. Why is it not possible to make one large bathroom with all the facilities in it? Don't expect such niceties as bathrobes and slippers, or a fridge or mini bar. Otherwise, the beds are large and comfortable, and there is a large flatscreen TV.
The public areas are extremely sparse. The lobby is large, and tiled. It has all the charm of a railway station concourse, being particularly large, evidently to accommodate all the conventions which seem to take place there. The furniture is sparse, uncomfortable and not matched, and there really is no comfortable area to sit down and relax.
The "Mainstay" bar is quite busy, and not really a very convivial place to relax. "Rusty''s" restaurant serves an excellent breakfast, and the food in the evening is very good. The chef will accommodate your particular dietary needs, and the service is first class too.
To summarise: for a Sheraton, this is quite disappointing. Most of the shortcomings are counterbalanced by the wonderful, friendly staff, and the service. However, it still falls short of the mark.

Also at the Sheraton for the terrific jazz festival earlier this month, we found it to be a great place to stay and enjoy such an event. The facilities were very good, and the staff were consistently friendly, professional, and helpful.

Among the latter, I have to single out Mr. Jerry Walters who checked us in on our arrival. I don’t know what combination of our early reservation, our early arrival, our borderline SPG membership, seeing my wife enter with a rollator/walker, and/or my- let’s say- unorthodox answer to his question about whether either of us smoked did it; but he most graciously gave us an accessible, large, 5th floor bedroom and bathroom with a beautiful view of the pool area and Gulf with me hardly having to ask.

Yes, the nearby ice machine and other room doors slamming could be heard in the room, but were not unduly annoying, especially with our room door closed. And, yes, the walk to the Gulf across the beach was w-a-a-a-y too long for us, but it was November and that’s not what we were there for. And yes, Rusty’s Bistro was a bit too expensive for us, but their Island Grille was more reasonable when it was open, and there were other good alternatives at the strip center across the road. The free parking and free PC work stations on the lobby floor were truly welcome touches.

We stayed at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort in conjunction with their hosting the Suncoast Dixieland Jazz Festival. The Sheraton did a wonderful job in supporting the festival and the festival itself was fabulous. The Sheraton provided an extra area to supply food and drinks for the festival goers, who wanted to grab something between concerts, besides the regular restaurants in the hotel. They also allowed the festival organizers to set up a hospitality suite to provide food for the musicians, sponsors and benefactors. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was a king and very nicely appointed, with easy chair, desk, bed, complimentary robe and luggage racks. Next year at the festival, we will not hesitate to stay at the Sheraton.

Room Tip: I think there is a good view from any room in the Sheraton. We were on the 6th floor, and while we...

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. The lady who checked us in was not very pleasant. She gave us the impression she had something better to do. The air conditioner in our room was so loud we had to put pillows over our head to try and sleep. Upon checkout we were asked if we called maintenance like it was our problem to fix.

Room Tip: Ask for a Gulf View Room. Make sure you are not assigned a room next to the room the cleaning staff...
