“Classy, relaxing, and in a perfect location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2010

My partner and I stayed at the Sandpearl for a little getaway weekend this month, and it was quite the experience. Location-wise, it occupies prime beach-front real estate about 500 yards from Pier 60 and the cluster of restaurants in the area. The front desk, concierge, and valet staff is first-rate professional, offering champagne at check-in and all of the other first-class pampering one would expect of a hotel in this class. Lobby is airy and artful, and overlooks both the pool and beach beyond. We had a king-bed, Gulf front room on the 4th floor, which included a balcony with room for two chairs and a small table - perfect for watching the sunset! Room was furnished nicely with dark wood, flat-screen TV, chaise lounge, and bed (i thought the mattress was a bit on the soft side, but I like a very firm mattress; the pillows were excellent, though, nice and firm). The bathroom was big, plenty of room to move around, with a large shower/tub. We ate breakfast once at the main restaurant; it was acceptable but not spectacular. Pool was plenty big with a good number of lounges, chairs, etc. Lounges and large umbrellas were also set up on the beach about 50 feet beyond that. If returning to the area, I would definitely stay at the Sandpearl again.

While staying at the Sandpearl Resort for the July 4th weekend I was spoken to very rudely by one the spa staff members. I was extremely dissatisfied by the spa receptionist's tone while my wife was making a purchase in the salon. The spa receptionist was very unprofessional and condescending. I strongly believe there is a right way to talk to people and she must have missed that part of training. I immediately reported the incident to management whom did not even offer an apology. To me, it felt as though the manager didn't care and seemed to dismiss the problem. This unacceptable customer service really ruined what I had hoped to be a nice weekend.

The Sandpearl is everything I could ask for in a resort hotel: Clean, friendly and helpful staff, beautiful view, posh room, great pool and walk out to the beach. The restaurants were a bit expensive, but the quality of the food was worth it. I would have like to have seen more vegetarian options. There was a mix-up with an activity we had planned through the hotel and the staff more than made up for the mix-up, so much so that I feel embarrassed about all they gave us to amend for their mistake. Only one drawback: The frozen drinks at the pool weren't really all that well made. My favorite spot was the fire pit in the sand. I'm ready to go back.

The Sandpearl Resort is a great place to stay on Clearater Beach. The rooms were a little small and the balcony was tiny. However, the room was spotless and had all the amenities that we needed. Our room was very quiet and the bed was comfortable. The pool is AWESOME! Chairs were comfy and have nice shades attached to them. I still think about the frozon grapes and lavender scented frozen face clothes they bring around. If you are looking for a place within walking distance to Pier 60 and the restaurants this is the place to stay. Not too much in the way of good shopping on the beach. But, restaurants are very good. Sunset Sushi at the Sandpearl was delicious and a great deal! Definitely would stay here again!

First, this place is wonderful! We can't wait to go back. However, we did have some issues that if didn't have the vacation would have been perfect. First and my biggest complaint. Check in is after 4:00. Ok, we got there at 3:52 - you'd think no big deal. Well, we were given our key at 5:35 and then only because I agreed to put away the dishes that had just been started in the dishwasher. They did suggest we go eat dinner and it would be ready when we got back. We were 10 hours from home. After being in the car all day, we wanted to clean up and relax. Second, for little kids - - there wasn't much they could watch on tv. When you came in at night, or while it was raining it would have been nice to have something for my 5 years old to watch. Sure, you could buy cartoons for 2.99, but for the amount of money that was spent on the suite, we should have had every channel out there. Instead, several nights we let him baseball on ESPN to go to sleep. Sure, they had tvland, cartoon network, nick, but those channels are more for ages 8+, especially at night. Third, you can't take a cooler to the pool. We didn't mind having to buy beverages for the adults at the poolside grill, but the young kids can't have coke and lemonade all day and they want goldfish not fries for a poolside snack. We did eat lunch one day at the pool. 2 chicken wraps, 1 burger and 1 kids meal was 75.00. We had lobster for 2, grouper-shrimp-scallops, and pizza at ClearSky for 80.00. We knew that the balcony door had to be closed for the air to work. We didn't know that you have to pull the curtain back and be sure that the wireles signal is sent from the upper corner of the balcony to the thermostat. It was 79 degrees one night. They did come right away the next morning to explain the procedure. We felt we should have been told at check in. It rained the 1st and 2nd day there. The pool chair cushions were wet and nasty. On some days, housekeeping would come 2-3:00, while turn down would come just 2 hours later. Kinda strange. Now for the good - - - this place was gorgeous. Katherine was great. Every time we called and asked for something, we had it in 3-4 minutes tops. I have never seen a more beautiful beach. The location was great. You could walk everywhere. The best place to eat by far was Cooters - 10. Breakfast was Clearsky - 9-1/2. Frenchy's got a 5 out of 10. We can't wait to go back. We'll just know that we'll spend more time at the beach rather than the pool until the kids get older.

After reading all of the reviews, wasn't sure what to expect. This hotel is great. I travel all over the world staying in 4-5 star hotels, and this place is excellent. The service is excellent, the rooms are very nice, although the patios on the bay side are very small. We loved the pool and beach- renting a cabana was easy and very cool- especially when it rained, which happens almost every day. The servers around the pool were great. The hotel restaurant was very nice, but the food wasn't great for the price- lobster was overcooked and rubbery, the halibut was dry and no flavor. Tates bar and grill at the pool had great food and excellent service. We loved Frenchies next door for lunch and casual dinner, we loved Bobby's Bistro behind Beachcomber's for a great dinner. Breakfast at the Cleawater cafe was convenient and very good. The beach is very nice, white sand and more private than up towards the Hyatt.
Overall, very nice and we will come back. We did a couple's vacation, but we would bring the kids next time. They have lots to do with/without the kids.

Beautiful hotel from the artwork to the pool area to the beach. Comfortable, large room (We had a 5th floor gulf view and it was spectacular!). Great bath items. Beach is wonderful white soft sand. You may use hotel beach chairs (umbrellas are for rent) in area nearest hotel or go on down (large beach) to public areas. Within easy walking distance to pier and many restaurants and shops. Pier has arts and craft booths from about 6:30pm to 10:30 pm. Check them out - lots of fun! Clear Sky Cafe right next door has good food and very reasonable prices-breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Brown Boxer restaurant across the street has good food and is casual with live music and sports bar feel but are quieter areas as well. Marina is near pier with many boat excursions. Kai-Lani has nice sunset cruise on catamaran. Good fish in many restaurants. Crabby Bill's is fun place. Yes, there is $15 /day resort fee (includes beach/pool towels, 2 bottles water /day, daily newpaper, business center access and printing if needed, free local calls) and $16/day valet parking fee (no self parking available but you can call down ahead and they always had it to the door by the time we got down.) Interesting side trip to Tarpon Springs (about 35 minutes up the coast). Clearwater Marine Aquarium is very interesting and educational. Concierge Allison was a big help in recommending and as a source of info. All in all great hotel and area!
