I've wanted to try stand up paddling for quite some time, and a recent trip to Tampa was just the right setting. I called late Saturday afternoon to see about openings for the next morning. The gal on the phone graciously added my reservation. She gave great directions to the North Shore Aquatic Complex parking lot where I was to meet the instructor, Stephanie.
Stephanie was quite personable. She set out the boards and paddles on the shore and quickly realized that we were one board short. She graciously gave up her board to remaining participant and joined us in the water for the initial training. After a few wobbly starts, I figured out my balance and the stand up paddling was a great activity. The two hour tour went by very fast. We first paddled along a nice residential area and then double backed toward the marina.
Since she was without a board Stephanie did not travel with us, but as a group we had a great time socializing along the way. Once we returned to the shore Stephanie gave us all a bottle of water - I was surprised how thirsty I was after our first outing!
The price ($59) was reasonable for two hours of physical activity in a great natural setting.
