“Great location, but not paradise”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2009

My boyfriend and I always travel on a budget, and finding a good hotel with a Gulf view on Clearwater Beach for around $100 was just about impossible. We called the Travelodge directly and asked for a water view. The woman we talked to was very helpful and reserved one of the double bed rooms for us (they didn't have a King). When we got to the beach we were extremely happy with the location, right in the middle of everything, but the room left much to be desired. We did not have one full shower with hot water, the beds were uncomfortable, and the hotel exterior was slightly scuffed up (probably from years of Spring Breakers!).

However, we had a private balcony and the size of the bathroom and room were great, so I would definitely recommend this to someone who was trying to get away from the cold without saving a ton of money. And if you don't plan on spending a lot of time in the room (like us!) it's worth it.

We booked a no smoking Gulfview room for 4 nights over the New Year holidays. Yes, the hotel is a bit dated, however the room rate was very reasonable so you get what you pay for (although the £/$ exchange rate changed between booking and paying so it ended up more expensive than when we first booked - but obviously that is not the hotel's fault).

The room was clean and the view from the balcony was wonderful - we were on the top floor. There was a kitchen area in the room with microwave, fridge and coffee machine which was useful.

The lady on reception was very friendly and helpful. There are a few restaurants within a couple of minutes stroll from the hotel and it is walking distance from Pier 60 where there is nightly entertainment and craft stalls.

We drove over to Busch Gardens in Tampa which took under an hour and also down to John's Pass which is a lovely little fishing area with shops and restaurants.

We got there and was told there was no hot water in our ocean side room, but could go down to a pool side room or take the room with a discount and use another room until it was fixed which would only be a few days. The few days turned into the whole stay. Some how my camera got broken while we were out of the room, Worked that morning went out for breakfast and when returned the room was clean and the camera broken. Was told I'm sure no one touched it. The office woman were wonderful and very kind. Was told the pool was heated but was not, could not swim. Had the room had hot water the money spent would have been worth it. Our mistake for staying anyways, we were tired, unloaded and just wanted to get to our room. If not for the hot water or camera problem it would be a great place for anyone on a budget. The view was beautiful each morning.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. The location is stunning ,straight across from the beach .The dolphins were out every morning in the bay and it was magic to sit on the balcony and watch them.Rooms are a bit dated but they are clean and everythig worked.Would stay here again on my next visit to the U.S.A.

Stayed 7/11/08 to 7/13/08
The hotel was very clean and housekeeping staff excellent.
The manager, Kathy Mittler went out of her way as well as the staff to make our stay comfortable.
I telephoned for my reservation and Susan was helpful, she remembered me staying at the hotel a year ago, which was nice to be remembered. My family goes at the sametime each year for the beach soccer tournament that is held in Clearwater Beach.

The manager allowed us to stay in the room until 12:00PM as my son had a game at 12:30PM, and let me keep my Van in the hotel parking lot until my son was through playing. This was all done without extra charge.

My stay at the hotel was excellent and the staff very nice.

Decided at the last minute to extend our one week condo vacation and had nowhere to sleep so we chose this Travelodge.

This is an old hotel in need of serious maintenance and upgrades. However, we were comfortable and the room looked clean. We have done quite a bit of traveling around the world and tend to not be fussy about a basic room....for a decent price. The towel rack was dangling, the sliding door to the balcony was a struggle (OK a real fight) to open and the elevator was terminally slow .... but overall we had a clean, safe place to stay. If you're looking for pampering, this is not your place !!
Location is great for those who like to walk and see the sights. Several good restaurants, shops within a few minute walk .... we have 4 young children and this was a great location. Skip across the street to the beach.
Previous review indicated that the pool was dirty. Not so during our stay ... took advantage of an early morning swim and the pool and pool deck were clean.
Many nice hotels in the area, but for the price we were satisfied. Don't be afraid to stay here.

We spent two nights with our two kids at this hotel. We rented a room with a small kitchen. Good location and the bathroom is clean (probably refurbished) but the rest is rather poor. The continental breakfast is a joke: only coffee, juice and cereals. And to complete this nice picture, add a few cockroaches found during our last evening.... We will never go back again.
