“Sand Key”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

Having lived in the area for 45 years it is hard to be too kind to this park as it was donated by a family that had stipulated that the land (at that time many many times larger than the current area) be enjoyed by the people of Florida with no commercial enterprise ever to be allowed. After the first of many condos were started in the area a movement "Save Sand Key" was formed by local citizens who were "out spent by the corporations" and the construction continued eating up the majority of the donated land. The area remaining is OK and does have some beach front, a view of the Pass between Sand Key and Clearwater Beach and parking. It has no similarity to the rustic unspoiled area of years ago but there is plenty of paved parking.

“Awesome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

Great beach, took a bunch of grilling stuff at sunset and made dinner. Very quiet and not crowded at all. Nice to lay under the stars and listen to the gentle waves.

“Terrific Park & Beautiful Beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013 via mobile

The Sand Key Park is terrific. Going on a Friday morning in early September, we really enjoyed the beauty and serenity of the beach. Very few people were out on a weekday. The sand is firm and great for taking a long walk. Also, the beach and water are all sand for ease of getting into and out of The Gulf. We used the changing facilities afterwards and the stopped for lunch at Frenchy's. The park also has some large pavilions for group gatherings. This is a wonderful beach with easy parking, bathroom and changing rooms. The cost is only $5 per vehicle for the day. It is not the teen or college scene as no alcohol is allowed.

“Awesome beach!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

We were staying at the nearby Sheraton, but decided to go to the public beach right next door. While there are comfy chairs and umbrellas for rent (I think it's $25/day each?), we just went to Target and bought 2 beach chairs and umbrellas for a total of $25 for the week's stay. The park is free, but there is a $5/car parking fee. Well worth it. There are payment machines conveniently located every few spots that take credit card or cash. The walk to the beach was fairly short, and the beach was wide and deep, so people were not "sitting on top of each other". There was plenty of space to spread out and have our own little area. The beach is clean, the water fairly calm, and the shell hunting easy. There are lifeguards, but they are pretty laid back and don't bother people, but you feel safer knowing that they are there. A much appreciated factor were the outdoor showers on the way back from the beach. We were able to shower off the sand from both ourselves and our stuff. The park itself is quite pretty, and we saw a number of wading birds each day.
