My husband and I have two well-mannered little mutts and have started trying to take them with us on more trips, so for our Thanksgiving trip to north Florida I searched out hotels that allowed pets. There is a cluster of budget hotels at the intersection of Highway 77 and Interstate 10 in Chipley, Fla., but the only one that allowed pets was the Super 8. (Warning: some off-property websites will tell you the hotel/motel is pet-friendly but it is NOT. Go to the actual website of the property itself to make certain of their rules and regs. Would be terrible to bring the Fidos under the assumption you can keep them and cannot.) The Super 8 is your typical budget hotel in that there are no bells and whistles, but I was very pleasantly surprised nonetheless. The room smelled nice and clean upon entry and was spacious and well laid out. The king sized bed was comfortable. The room was equipped with small fridge and microwave and free high-speed internet was offered. (I could not get it to work in my room, so I walked my laptop to the office and checked email there.) The hotel is one-level, so no stairs to balance with dogs, boxes and bags, which was a bonus. There is plenty of space around to walk the dogs, and several eating establishments (including a VERY friendly Waffle House, reminded me of "Cheers" where everyone knew everyone) within a short walk. A 24-hour Super Wal-Mart is across the street should you realize late you forgot your toothbrush (guilty!) The front office staff was nice and responsive. They offer a 'continental breakfast' in the office. Blow this off, unless it's just to grab a glass of apple juice and a package of donuts for the road! Overall I was very pleased with my stay here and would recommend it highly, especially to those folks traveling with pets.
