“Stayed here for 10 years, but not anymore!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013 via mobile

I want to really love this place, but the last two years have been horrible. Orange Lake is more worried about sales, sales, sales... They have over built this resort but forgot to over build the pool areas. You cannot find any where to sit, I had to sit on the pavement my entire week I was here. When I spoke with the MOD (manager on duty) I was told to use the other pools??? Really Captain Obvious??? I didn't pay all of this money to use the average pool. If I wanted an average pool I would of booked the Holiday Inn Express for $98 a night. The trash is over flowing everywhere, the bartenders and wait staff are slow and they add the gratuity automatically? Ummmm... last I checked you earned gratuity. Now I am rewarding staff that takes 20 minutes to make a drink??? This place is a joke. For the money I paid, I can book anywhere in the country for the same price. Needless to say, I won't be staying here again. You got money for the last 10 years, but not anymore...

Let's get one thing straight from the get-go. This is a time-share deal, and they are pretty aggressive about wanting you to do the spiel. You have to be very firm about not wanting to discuss the tour, not wanting the $100 tickets, or any of that jazz. Then they'll leave you alone.

Check in was probably the hurdle. We arrived right at 4:00, as did everyone else. So we waited. Once we got to the counter it went very smoothly. After checking in, we were herded to the "appointment desk" under the guise of activiating our $20 resort voucher. I shut that down quickly and we were on our way to the room.

We stayed in the newer, River Island (or whatever it's called) section, room 82102. This was PERFECT. The condo itself is pretty great. Two large bedrooms, two large bathrooms, a well stocked kitchen, and out back, a screened porch with access to the lazy-river/pool area directly across from the room.

The beds were comfortable, a bit on the soft side for me, but I slept fine. Although our unit was right off of the lobby, it was quiet.

There's a Publix right by the eastern exit, so that's a great place to stock up on any groceries you may want. China Star, in the same plaza, is a servicable place for take out or delivery (we did both). Reasonably priced and really decent food. We did both take out one night and deliver another night and each time it was fast and good.

I wish we had stayed a couple more days as due to weather, we didn't get to enjoy everything the resort had to offer.

The room looked exactly like the picture on the website.

Room Tip: First floor, and in the River Section is your best bet.

I was down to Orlando for a business trip and stayed at the wonderful Orange Lake Resort.
When I checked in the person at the desk was very friendly and informative. The room I was in was on the top floor overlooking the golf course. What a view of the area! My room was very clean
and the full size kitchen was also spotless. The bedroom and large bathroom was well appointed
with king size bed and tile floors.
I would highly recommend the resort to business travelers as well as families.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors looking over golf course.

Where do we start? Check in was okay, but we were immediately shuffled over to get "discount" attraction/golf tickets. We normally don't agree to the time share presentations, but we thought we would save some money... and they said it would only be an hour (more on this in a bit).
We checked into our villa, it was West Village. These are the oldest units there. They have done a few upgrades (counters, floors etc..), but still seemed out-dated (the tv's were not flat screen). We were right at the 4th hole on one of the golf courses too. Having three young children, we were concerned with their safety. We did call to express our concern, but they refused to accomodate us or make other suggestions. We also informed them of our screen which had fallen off as soon as we opened the door. They did come and fix it.
We went to our time share presentation the following morning. Of course the one hour turned into three hours. I think they couldn't believe that we didn't love their resort!!!! What they showed us compared to our unit was totally different. Anyhow, we did get our discount play pass tickets. Don't buy them....you don't need them. What a waste of money. We can't believe they charge for such things as mini golf, the hippo slide, a tube for the lazy river!!!! You can't bring your own beer to the pool either. More money spent......
Speaking of pools. You have to drive or take a shuttle to get to any pool. The pool areas are nice, but cluttered and hard to find a chair (especially at River Island).
We golfed at Legend's Walk. That was nice for a walking course. Make sure you reserve tee times as soon as you get there. The other courses fill up fast. We could only golf the one day.
For a resort (which prides itself on gold crown too), it was very costly and not relaxing. Too big and obnoxious for our liking. Never again!!!!

OLR&CC is a Holiday Inn owned property which is located on 1100 fabulously landscaped acres just 4 mi. from Disney and actually adjacent to Animal Kingdom. Disney World was the initial draw for us to come here. When the grandchildren had done DW enough times to satiate, we continued to come. The golf courses are the big draw for us.
There are several kinds of housing to accommodate from 2-8. We choose the 2 BR fairway apartments which are tastefully furnished and appointed. The beds and pillows are lusciously comfortable, the units are clean and fully equipped. When we are inside, we feel like we are fully alone. On the patio, we meet only the golfers passing by and an occasional Sand Hill Crane or Hawk.
There are many guests - I venture to guess several thousand or more- from all countries coming and going, but the layout of this place is so innovative and grand, that one does not get a crowded feeling. There are places to gather, sunset at the beach and pool over Orange Lake, games nights, movies, exercise rooms, restaurants. They make it fun for adults as well as children.
There are five or six restaurants, 6 pools, 4 fabulous golf courses, a Lodge with rooms and plenty of activities throughout to satisfy any age. Several of the pools are river-like with moving water on which you may get a inner tube and take a "mile long" ride. The lush landscaping is beautifully maintained and even though a major highway goes through over head, one hardly notices as they have so carefully concealed it.

Second stay. Preferred the bungalow this year which although more dated than the "blocks" enabled parking right outside so very easy trandfer of luggage and shopping. We love the fact that on Priceline we've got this for about $120 a night for two years in a row. Two bed condo with kitchen and living area. Very good value. Pool areas are great with slides for the kids and a long lazy river. You need to pay extra for flotation devices although after a few hours you can pick up "abandoned" ones for free! We've never eaten on site but that's beause it's so handy for various restaurants offering great food and drink deals. Applebwees on a Monday offering 60oz of beer for $5.99 and half price appetizers as an example.
So easy breakfast in the apartment, sandwiiches in the Disney park (made at the condo) followed by cheap evening meal. The breakfast and lunch can be quite healthy! Evening meal probably not !!
We'd give it 5 stars but you always need to be careful to avoid the time share salespeople. Don't accept the $20 voucher on check in and be careful of all phone calls.
Overall, excellent place to stay but remember it's a timeshare and you can get it for $120 a week without any up front cost or maintenance charge or anything else. Enjoy!

Room Tip: You have washer dryer so you can wash towels / sheets without paying for room service

We recently stayed at Orange Lake for four days. Beautifully well appointed property. The amenities are first class. We stayed in the East. Village. This is the furthest village from the registration area. Located about 15 minutes from I 4, this property is very large. Travel throughout the property is either by your personal vehicle or the provided shuttles. This is a timeshare property so be prepared, if you are a first time visitor, to attend a sales meeting. If attending its best to schedule an early morning appointment since presentations take over 2 hours regardless of what you are told.
