“Some Great, Some Terrible!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

I've been going to Orange Lake for over 25 years, with my parents, as an adult and now as a parent myself with my children. I've seen it all in all stages and their are some really great things about the resort, I wish I could rate it higher, but there's just a few things they need to start doing better. Here's my review.

Accomodations:
I've stayed everywhere, here's my take
River Island: It's nice to stay in river island if you have kids, if you don't avoid it at all costs, there's other great pools, also I personally don't like it because it feels more like a hotel rather than your own vacation condo. DO NOT get a "forest view" which means you are overlooking the parking lot and road which are very busy and noisy. The rooms are quite nice, new decor, nice kitchen, great TV's and bathrooms.
North Village: This is my favorite place to stay as I love the pool it's nice and not as busy as the others but BEWARE they have not updated the kitchens or bathrooms in the units and they are BAD!!! Extremely bad, crumbling cabinets, broken tiles, dirty old! They did update the decor but not the kitchens or bathrooms and they are in bad shape. So find out if they've been updated before you go or for the same price you can stay in the west village which has been updated
West Village: Great location as it's by the front of the resort, they have redone these units so they have updated kitchens and decor, great place to stay. The units have a different layout so they seem a little smaller in my opinion to any of the other locations.
East Village: Newer but do not have the updated kitchens and bathrooms but they are in better shape then the north village but they are really far from anything but are very quiet if that's what you are looking for.

Service:
The service is REAL hit or miss, for some reason I always get great service at breezes for several years now. The service at the golf courses is horrible, impossible to get a tee time or to get someone to answer the phone they also nickel and dime you for everything for golf. Tee's and Towels, etc.
The service at river island is horrible, the restaurants and shops for some reason no one is very helpfun in the shop which is very nice. Front desk, hit or miss i've had both very good and very bad experiences. The holiday inn vacation club people are TERRIBLE. My parents have owned for over 25 years and even they hate it. You can get some good free stuff if you sit through their presentation if you can stand it but it's very high pressure and they are rude. We avoid it every year!

Pools: AWESOME! #1 reason to go, they have 3 pool areas that are huge and perfect for kids, they have a lazy river at river island which is great, as well as a beach sand area. It's always packed there so get to the pool early but the kids of all ages will love it. West village has a great pool area as well as a lake with sand beach. North village also has a huge pool area with large kiddie pool, slide, waterfall. There is so much for kids to do!

Food: Surprisingly the food is actually pretty good, they have a ton of choices, Marketplace, Pizza, Bar and Grill. Here's the good and the bad
Good: The pizza place is great! Good Pizza reasonable prices, The Legacy bar and grill has great bar food! Breezes has really great food and you can sit and eat by the pool.
The Bad: River Island Grilling Company and Anchors are horrible. Anchors is outdoors and is absolutely disgusting, the food is bad and its filthy! River Island Grilling Company is their "nice" restaurant, the food and service are terrible, don't bother go off the grounds!

Overall I really like this place thre's just a few things that can be improved upon and it will be a much better place to stay, the grounds are great! Great place to stay with kids!

We've been owners here for about 15 years and come here about 1/4 of the time. All units are large and comfortable. Skip the owner update. It has never been anything but an owner upgrade pressure sales pitch. I won't send friends on the promos I get because I don't want to subject them to a 2 hour sales presentation. Pay-go-enjoy.
Huge property with lots to do. Multiple pool complexes, lake and beach with water activities, multiple golf course choices, tennis, handball, fitness centers, kiddy theater, arcades, bars, resturants, shopping, activities and more. Courtesy shuttle to get around. On our last visit we never left the property other than to visit friends and a couple dinners off property. Seem to remember some sort of minor maintenance issue each time we are there. The more important ones get taken care of, but don't expect everything to get fixed.

West Village: Older area. mostly small villas along golf courses. We like that, quiet, no running in the hallway, limited neighbor noise. We own and usually stay here. A little distance to everything yet closest to everything, best shuttle availability. Centeral complex has registration, kids area with arcade and theater, lake beach, pool complex, resturant/bar, put put, fitness center, tennis courts, golf center, & more.

North Village: Great kiddy pool complex. On lighted 9 hole par 3 course. kind of off in the corner. Most units a long walk to pool complex with little or no shuttle service till you walk to the main access roads.

East Village: Golfers paradise. Really out of the way from the rest of the resort. Like North Village, limited shuttle service. Bring a car or bikes. Legends grill with nightly activities. Best views of the Disney fireworks.

River Island: Have stayed here twice. All units right at lazy river pool complex with 0 entry walk in pools for the kids. Resturant, bars, shops and nightly entertainment. Units are high rise hotel style and as such you get noise from hall and neighbors. Pool area gets very crowded.

Room Tip: See notes above. Each village has a different character. Know what you want to do. If you wnat to...

This was our third visit to this resort. We had requested the West Village prior to arriving but got the run around. Call closer to your arrival, it will be taken care of when you check in and finally from the front desk - you requested the East Village. First time we had a problem and it wouldn't be worth mentioning except the the front desk clerk was extremely rude to the point of nasty. Very unhelpful with other questions. First time I've encounter that level of unprofessionalism from Orange Lake staff! We ended up in the East Village. The suite was fine - the furniture and decor a bit tired. The TVs took a few minutes to clear and focus. No where comfortable to sit Love this resort but its time for a refresh. Great for families and couples. Lots to do on property or you can just do nothing. Close to everything.

We stayed a week in one of the villas on this vast property. There are 4 golf courses and as many pool complexes. The grounds, all 1400 acres, are beautiful and well cared for. The golf courses are wonderful! Our lodging unit, a 2 bedroom villa, was only marginally clean and scantily equiped with cooking/eating utensils. We shared the lodging with 2 other close friends and it was suitable for the 4 of us. You would not want many more people in the 2 bedroom unit we were in. Holiday Inn, owner of the property, will try to get you to attend a sales pitch to purchase a time share. Unless you are seriously interested I do not recommend it. A one hour pitch stretched into 2 hours and became quite pressured toward the end.
Overall we had a good experience at this conveniently located property.

Room Tip: The River Island complex is the newest and most luxurious part of the resort.

Stayed at OL while waiting for a flight out at the end of our vacation - was a wonderful experience. 2 Bed Villa on the golf course has all the amenities you want while travelling with 3 young kids and the pools and restaurants make it easy to entertain. We found the rates and cost of living on the resort very affordable - love the cashless option. Staff are helpful and made our stay stress free.

I have stayed here twice over the last two years and it has been great both times. It is always very clean and the staff is very friendly. We have stayed in both a two bedroom and a hotel room and both were very clean and quiet. I felt like I was coming home after a day on the town. Very open and comfortable. The only downside of a hotel room is that you cant open the windows. On the second stay the bathroom handle was broken so we called the front desk and they sent somebody up within minutes. There is plenty to do here you will never get bored. The food and drinks have good prices compared to everything else in the Orlando area. If you get a orange lake cup you can refill it with margaritas for less than a drink at a local bar. The free shuttle to all the pools was great! We we staying in the club house so it was nice to be able to go to the bigger pool complex with the lazy river. We never used the lazy river because we didnt feel like having to pay for it. You can buy some kind of package for your stay so you only have to pay for activities once. We never spend too much time at the hotel so we didnt even pay attention to this. It was just nice to relax by the pool after a day exploring. There is always something to do at night here too. They had a great band playing the second night we stayed. If you have been to timeshares before you know how they work. They only bothered us once for a tour durring check in. We said no and we wernt bothered the rest of the time. They did leave a daily voicemail though telling us about the events on the resort that day. Overall it is a great place to stay! There is so much to do at the resort that you may not even want to go out. Next time I visit I plan to spend more time at the resort.

Stayed for 1 week at orange lake with friends and our kids. The hotel and grounds were amazing. The pools are great with a very large lazy river, kiddie splash pad and pool with waterslides. There is also a "beach" at this resort with sand and hammocks the kids enjoyed for hours. The worst aspects would be how big this place is and having to take a shuttle around the resort. Also, the cost of the restaurants were high, but no worries, all rooms have a kitchen in which you can buy all of your own groceries. But overall, i would definately go back. Close to disney and you can actually see the disney fireworks from the resort.
