“Spacious - great for young families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

We exchanged into this resort in order to take our grandkids to Disney. The apartment is vast, clean, well appointed. Great to have so much space for the family. Target and Publix are just nearby so it's very convenient. THe facilities on site, such as the pools and water complex, are amazing and the little ones loved them. Restaurants and shops onsite are expensive. OUr only issue is the beds: the sheet isn't big enough for the double bed and the pillows are appalling. We are also alarmed every time the little ones go near the large coffee table in the living area - its glass topped, which is crazy with families coming with children. The grounds are well looked after, and although at first sight the place seems huge, it's easy to get everywhere and walk around.
The staff kept trying to get us to take a promo tour and we kept having to be almost rude to refuse. BUt that's always true in timeshare places.

The room was extremely clean, and was big enough for all 8 people on our trip. The beds were comfortable, and the grounds were beautiful. Our room was located right beside a small pond, and we were able to sit on our balcony and watch the cranes. We asked for more dish soap once, and were provided with an entire package of supplies two separate times. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful :) We go to Florida every year, and we will definitely return!

I am a long time owner at Orange Lake. The units are spacious and well appointed. The resort is like a town in itself. Target and Publix built stores nearby so many services are convenient. If there is an issue with services or amenities, it is quickly resolved. Everything is positive except that in recent years the attempts to get owners to attend "updates" have been relentless. It casts a pall over one's vacation.

Room Tip: Study the map of the resort before selecting your location to avoid surprises. Some locations are f...

We recently spent four nights here, December 31-January 4. This was our second stay and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We paid cash (a reasonable amount) and enjoyed the space, the option to eat in, and convenience to places we wanted to go. Check in was easy and staff was helpful. The unit was clean, the bedding comfortable, the area quiet. We knew in advance that these folks are in the business of selling timeshares. Having done the math years ago, we are convinced that, for us, timeshare purchase is a BAD idea. We declined to attend the sales presentation and did not listen to the potentially annoying daily phone messages. This stuff didn't spoil our stay. These people are doing their job, and their job is to sell timeshares.

We stayed here a few years ago and really enjoyed it. The facilities were clean and easy to use. When we arrived (late at night with a 6 year old) we had to be put in a room for 2 people (there were 5 of us!!!) so were really fed up, but by the next morning everything was sorted out...we enjoyed the buffet breakfast which was really good considering the price of the place. The golf and pool area were great for kids as well...everything is not too far away but you will definitely need a car to get around.

We had the misfortune of staying here for three days through the holiday. RCI magically misplaced our mother in laws points just in time for high season so we could pay cash. They couldn't find our reservations. Then they claimed they needed a credit card for "identification purposes only" and proceeded to deduct $283.00 on it "for taxes and so we could use our room key to make purchases at their cashless resort." When we finally found our unit (which is almost impossible because there are almost no signs) there were piles of bed linens, towels and bags of garbage in the front yards. I guess the cleaning crews throw all the stuff over the balconys to be picked up later,as we saw a truck going around collecting it later that evening?
There was a huge pile of garbage that sat in our breezeway for our entire stay. I took pictures of it. It certainly won't help any pest problems by leaving piles of rotting food and garbage laying around for days.
Nothing is conveniently located. The pools are not heated, or at least not enough to notice. There are only two hot tubs that we could find. One was no bigger than a bathtub and had six people jammed in it. Everything from the arcade to the soft drinks are way over priced.
All in all, this was a miserable waste of time. We stayed at Summer Bay last year and it wasn't great, but still significantly better than this place.
I am going to write to the Wilson Family Foundation, Spence Wilson and let them know and see what a blight on their fathers name this place is. I realize they have little to do with the place, but since this resort uses the Wilson family name everywhere, including their sales pitch, they should be told how bad their prized project has become. For a place founded by a guy that wanted to provide affordable vacations for the average family, this place nickel and dimes you to death. Nine dollars a day to rent and inner tube? Are they sick in the head?
There is a multitude of less expensive, better, cleaner resorts in the area. Don't waste your time here.
Even the landscaping is bland and cheap. They have a ton of 23 mph speed limit signs (why 23 mph?) But nearly no directional signs, so you will spend a lot of time driving around looking for your accomodations or activities. Awful!
Our room had a broken pot sitting on the counter when we checked in. One of the stove burners didn't work and the refrigerator was on its last leg.
The sales spiel was pointless and between four people and prices that went from $40,000 down to $5000. I finally told the guy if they paid me five grand, I would take one!
Don't they realize you could buy a house in Orlando for less than $40,000 and have it for use 52 weeks a year? Why someone would pay $40,000 for one week at this joint is beyond me? Sorry, no sale! I am just sorry I wasted 3 vacation days on this place!

My family has owned Christmas week at Orange Lake since 1982 and have not used it, maybe twice, in the last thirty years. The resort has changed immeasurably since then, some things for good and others, not so much. We own room 2263 in the West Village and stay in our same unit every year. Our backyard is one of the island holes and the view is gorgeous. It is a very short walk across the hole and parking lot to the West Village Clubhouse, swimming pools, and beach activities. It's a bit of a jaunt if going to any of the amenities in the East Village or the River Clubhouse, but the complimentary shuttle service takes care of that. The grounds are beautiful and the amenities are top notch. The West Village Clubhouse's children's activity center is a welcome addition. There are toys, board games, and video games. Children must be accompanied by an adult, but it's still great. The fitness center is more than adequate. It's a long skinny room, but there are plenty of treadmills, ellipticals, and stationary bikes for cardio workouts. There are also several weight machines and universal trainers and some free weights. There are also two small sections to do yoga or stretch. There are tons of miles of sidewalks (you may have to dodge golfballs) for running and the scenery and weather can't be beat. There is also a large video game room with up to date games for older children/teenagers. The water sports are tons of fun and reasonably priced for owners. There are three eighteen hole golf courses and one nine hole golf course that are world renowned and TONS of great clay tennis courts. There is no shortage of things to do at this resort.
