“Advertised as luxury, but something else indeed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2012

I was really looking forward to visiting Cedar Key. It is a small island with limited accommodations, but Old Fenimore Mill was disappointing to say the least. We stayed in Unit 1D. They have a futon for a sofa. It was extremely dirty and the throw pillows had all of these holes in them. Carpets in bedrooms were filthy. Ceiling fan in bedroom had so much dust that it was actually hanging off the fan like icicles. Drawers in kitchen were full of crumbs. I could probably have overlooked the rustic nature if this place had been clean. We were offered another unit when one opened up, but after seeing how poor the cleaning people were, we decided to shorten our stay. We had originally booked 7 days, but only stayed three days. I will say it is a beautiful view overlooking the gulf.

Why they call themselves luxury lodging on Cedar Key is such an extreme representation.

We recently spent a week in a lovely condo, Serenity, in building 7. It looked out on the shallows & was a constant source of beauty. I'm surprised my husband left the balcony at all, he was so enamoured of all the birds that stopped by for a meal!
It was comfortable & convenient; we hope to return next year.

Room Tip: Some people probably prefer to be on the gulf side but if you like birdwatching ask for the side fac...

This was old Florida at its best. Our one bedroom condo was right on the gulf and very well equipped. We could walk to everything and even had a few meals in the condo. It had everything. I highly recommend it.

I will repeat this again: The view from Unit 9F is the best in Cedar Key. Today is our last day of vacation. Sadly, we have to leave tomorrow. Our accomodations have been some of the best we've ever stayed in, in Unit 9F at Old Finimore Mill Condos. Spouse and I have literally become addicted to the view, from sunrise to way after sunset. Birds, boats, dock, Gulf of Mexico, beautiful mangroves for as far as the eye can see, sunrise AND sunset views from the balcony. Low tide, high tide each bringing beautiful wonders of nature as far as the eyes can see. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Unit 9F, it's interior is decorated perfectly. We do not feel we are staying in just a rental condo; this feels like someones well cared for home (condo). It's roomy, very clean, windows all around, comfortable, large king bed (with a queen in the second bedroom). Kitchen fully stocked, tvs in living room and both bedrooms. (We got great tv reception and husband was THRILLED to have ESPN 2 for Tennessee football). There is a breeze outside on the balcony that NOWHERE else seems to have?! We are stumped on this one. We have covered Cedar Key north, south east and west, every part of the island. It's all beautiful in it's own way. We have checked out just about every rental available on this island. We both have decided the view from Unit 9F is the BEST IN CEDAR KEY. It really really is. You don't even have to be in any great shape at all to be able to walk to Dock Street, Tonys, and other restaurants. BOTH pizza places on the island are fantastic. YUM. Island Pizzaria (thin) and Cedar Key Pizza (regular crust) both truly wonderful. I almost hate writing this review because Cindy's condo will become more difficult to rent in the future! I don't have a single complaint to put in this review. You do have to walk up a few flights of steps to get up here, but there is very sturdy hand railing to hold onto and you can walk slowly if you have issues with stairs. Make sure you turn the icemaker on as SOON as you walk in upon check-in. It takes a while to fill up the ice bin. Nice big coffee pot. Huge fridge. Central air conditioning works great. All flooring is either tile or wood. It's so immaculately clean, so kudos to housekeeping. Bathrooms were spotless (and that's a HUGE deal to me). The living area is very open and roomy. Everywhere you turn, there is a window to see outside. I am a photographer, and so far this week, I have taken 1038 photos! Make sure you wake up early before sunrise and start down at the dock and work your way around very slowly to the gulf side. It's quiet and peaceful (it'll be just you). Take your camera, a book, sunglasses. Just walk slowly around until you reach Building 1 (9F is building 9 and there are 10 buildings). They just curve around beautifully. The small beach(es) that curve around are so lovely and during low tide you can just walk out there. Thousands of Fiddler Crabs down underneath the dock beneath the condo. There is plenty of nice, comfortable seating on the very large balcony of 9F. Fried green tomatoes at the Pickled Pelican are phenomenal and you get a place with 18 fried green tomatoes on it!!! But, back to the view and the condo, you will not regret a thing. Just be ready to relax and feel like you are the only folks on the island. We were fortunate to have some cooler temps for the first 5 days of our stay. This has definitely been the best vacation I have ever had. Looking off the balcony, we feel we are far away on a caribbean island. Thanks Cindy for the most wonderful accomodations ever. (Also, she has tons of literature regarding the area, the condo, places to eat, things to do, who to rent from, etc.) Don't buy any literature about Cedar Key before staying. It's all right here in the unit. Generally speaking, the Condos at Fenimore Mill, from the outside look old (but I prefer to say Historic looking). I have not viewed the inside of any other units, just the one we are staying in. It's a very very quiet condo area. They 10 buildings lazily circle their way around a beautiful little pool and hottub. Clean pool and hot tub, very private with a very lovely tropical setting. You really do feel you are far far away in a quiet, peaceful, tropical paradise. We experienced a very nice fellow at check in, no trouble whatsoever. The entire town of residents are kind and welcoming. This is the most friendly town we've ever stayed. We'll be back!!!!

Room Tip: 9F is top floor corner unit. Great eastern, western and northern views!

My wife and I were the other couple in 6C.

We stayed with my Sister and her Husband for a week in late May and everything she wrote in her review about how dirty the place was is true!

We arrived first and as soon as we walked through the door my wife was upset about how dirty the unit was and immediately started cleaning, good thing we brought our own cleaning supplies. What a way to kick-off a vacation.

We cleaned the entire unit top-to-bottom and washed all of the towels, linens, blankets and even the comforters and pillows. The place truly was filthy and had dog hair everywhere.

It's a shame too as this unit could be very nice if the owners would just do some minor updates and make sure it is clean when guests arrive. It has absolutely the best view in Cedar Key.

We stayed at Old Fenimore Mill on the recommendation of some friends. This is not a bells and whistles resort if that is what you're looking for, but our room was very clean and tastefully decorated and it had a cold AC and comfortable beds. I would have liked a few more notes on where spare towels were (took us 2 days to find them) and the heads up that we had no WiFi in our condo - if you must have internet make sure to ask when booking as not all units have it. There is a fishing dock on the property, a pool and a jacuzzi all very clean and well-maintained. The price was excellent at only $125.00/night, a great value for a nice condo.

Room Tip: Request Gulf view or view of the Back Bayou.

This is by far the filthiest place I have ever stayed. We were told that the owners had 4 large dogs, but incorrectly assumed that the unit would be cleaned before we arrived. There is no way anyone even touched this unit after the onwers leashed their 4 dogs and vacated. Dog hair swirled in the air when we turned the AC on. I have never seen so much dog hair! We had to wash the pillows, sheets, pillow cases, blankets, comforters, and throw rugs. We placed our newly washed sheets over the couches to sit on them. There was a dead pionsetta on the coffee table, the entertainment center had not been dusted, probably for months. The air conditioner filter was so clogged, I can't believe the AC even worked. We complained, but we were told that the unit was cleaned to their standard and we could stay or go, our choice. The offer of having a maid come over and clean was accepted, but the maid never came (in 8 days). We bought our own cleaning supplies and scrubbed tiolets, sinks, floors, micorwave, kitchen table, counters, tubs, showers, etc. The dishwasher was full of dirty dishes. There were muddy dog paw prints on the vanity in the master bath, along with a pee stain - obviously one of the dogs had lifted its leg on the vanity. There was a dried poop stain on the tiolet seat and toothpaste residue in the master bath sink upon checkin. We were actually accused of making the place dirty ourselves - don't know how we could have made it dirty before we arrived and checked in......But that was the response from check in desk. .We were four adults staying in this unit, all of our complaints fell on deaf ears. One day at the pool we were disucssing our unit with other vacationers, and a girls says "you must be in 6C. We are maids here and we all argue about who cleans that unit because it is so disgusting". We saw the same 2 maids every day for a week sunning and swimming with their families in the pool. Shouldn't hey be cleaning units? This could be the premier unit at the complex, it has by far the best view. If the unit is to stay in the rental program, the owners need to make sure that it is cleaned PROPERLY before guests arrive. Is it not in management's best interest to have happy renters? Management could have cared less that we were upset about the filth in this unit.
