“Very Relaxing”

Island Place

We truly enjoyed our stay at Island Place, room 108. We were right on the water as well as the pool area and were not disappointed. We had a queen size bed that was very comfortable. They actually gave us a choice of rooms when we arrived since we thought we would want to be on the second floor for the breeze. When we looked at the other room it was not nearly as bright and airy since there were only windows on the front and at the back due to the layout. Our room had windows down the side facing the pool as well as in the front and back.
We were somewhat concerned that with the pool being right next door that it would be loud but there weren't many people at the property when we were there. (Mon-Wed. before Memorial Day) If you're there at the height of the season this may not be the best room. The pool and jacuzzi were very nice and clean.
Our room also had a washer and dryer which was nice. We stopped in at the local laundromat to pick up some small detergent boxes which worked out great. The kitchen was nicely stocked with the essentials including a coffee maker. Beware that there is only one market in town which is very expensive. Next time I would do my shopping prior to arrival since the next nearest grocery is well over 30 minutes away!
The only issue I had with Cedar Key were the restaurants. I'm not a fried food fan but they fry EVERYTHING down there. (Not just in Cedar Key but in Florida in general) Since they actually farm clams in the area I thought they should be really great but unfortunately when we went to the Seabreeze (recommended by the hotel) the clams were so chewy it was like eating rubberbands! Their fried grouper sandwich is good for fried food.
By far the best meal was at the Blue Desert Cafe. I'd go back just to eat there! I had the pasta with white wine/butter/garlic sauce and seafood. The clams, shrimp and scallops were all perfectly done! We tried the key lime pie based on another review and were not disappointed. It was the best we've ever had.
We took a day trip and went to Crystal River to swim with the manatees. That was just incredible and I would recommend it to anyone that has an affinity for sea creatures. They're like petting dogs but in the water. They love to have their bellies scratched.
Overall if you're looking for a place to completely unwind and not do much at all Cedar Key is a nice place to visit.

“Poor room....worse service”

I stayed in room 106 also and found much the same as the previous review. The bed was small, the whole unit smelled musty. The pillow cases on the couch were dirty and I had an overall impression of an unsanitary accomodation. Both times I visited the office the clerk was too lazy to even get out of their chair and stand up to talk, much less facilitate my check in/check out. I asked for an hour later to checkout and was told that the room was to be cleaned for the next guess...standard procedure right? The cleaning supplies were parked right by my door and the maid was actually waiting at 11:01 to come in and hasten our exit. I felt rushed and unwelcome. I will not stay here again and suggest you look elsewhere on the key for newer digs with a professional staff.

I cannot speak for the entire condo, just unit 106. The view was very good and close to the shore. BUT The bed was small (no Queen or King), the furnishings were dated and the carpet was filthy. Not the kind of surface to walk barefoot. This place has definitely seen better days.

Reported the carpet to management as I checked out and they were aware of the problem but rented the unit anyway.

At $160 a night, I expected a lot more.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. We had a one bedroom condo, right on the bay with a great view. The condo was clean and nicely decorated. Desk staff was very
friendly and extremely helpful. They gave us tips on dining
and interesting places to see while on Cedar Key. Also,
loved being a block from downtown. We would stay here
again.
