“Upstairs is the place to go!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2009

If you like smoking and a dark bar atmosphere stay downstairs or outside on their back patio (which is covered in bird droppings and dirty looking-they need to do a better job of keeping it clean). Upstairs (non smoking ) is a different story-nice tables, very clean, lots of windows and what a fantastic view of the gulf coast! The food we had was Lobster Bisque soup- it was pretty good, but the Nachos had fake orangey looking cheese (although it was plentiful and had loads of cheese, beef, beans and jalepenos and sour cream, we have had better elsewhere. Betty the waitress is very nice-she has been around in other restaurants for 30 years at Cedar Key and we have met her before. All in all- just to sit at that window table with the window open next to us, feeling the ocean breeze and seeing the water was worth it - just go in and order soup and drinks and you can't go wrong!!!

“Great view, atmosphere and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2009

Great view of the Gulf of Mexico from this friendly restaurant. The service is great and the food is good. Reasonably priced food and drinks. We were very satisfied with our meal here.

“No service, no food, no customers: NO GOOD”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2009

We went to the Rusty Rim for dinner the Sunday evening before the Labor Day holiday, and were surprised to find the restaurant nearly empty. We were told to sit anywhere we like, so we chose a window table, which happened to be next to another table occupied by a husband, wife and child. Although waitstaff passed by us hurriedly several times, none brought a menu or offered to take a drink order. Another couple came in after us; they were seated on the other side of the restaurant and presented with menus right away. Meanwhile, the people at the table next to ours were complaining that they had been there for 45 minutes, waiting, and had no food. About then, a waitress came over and plopped a plate of french fries in front of the wife at the next table, and the wife responded, "That's it?!' as the waitress walked away from her. A minute later the waitress returned to tell the wife that whatever she had ordered, the kitchen was out of it. Neither the husband nor the child had food either. As we had not been spoken to since arriving, we just walked out at that point. We went down the street to Frog Landing, which was packed with customers, and which promptly seated and served us.

I had heard that this was a good place to eat, but judging by our experience, and the fact the place was practically empty on a holiday weekend evening, this place has gone downhill.

“Don't let the bar downstairs stop you”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2009

This great little restaurant is located upstairs over the bar "Coconuts". While Coconuts leaves a lot to be desired, The Rusty Rim was pleasant and the view was the best of all the restaurants on the island.

Our server was fast and competent, and very willing to answer all our questions about the area.

The food arrived hot and cooked perfectly, and was delicious. I wish we'd gone here sooner during our trip because we would have definitely been repeat visitors.
