“Sad to say, but we were underwhelmed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2012

We have always searched around Central FL looking for bagels close in quality to those from the Northeast. The few places we have found closed over the years, and Einstein's version of bagels (doughy lumps with a hole in the middle does not a bagel make!) is not even close. We finally decided to take the ride up to Bagel King with the hope that this would finally be the place for bagels that are crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside.

Sadly, we found them not much better than Einsteins, and we really, really hoped to like these based on the reviews we read.

Maybe we were there on a bad day, or possibly the bagels were not made that morning and just got a bit soft in the Florida humidity, but there were way too soft on the outside, and the inside texture was a bit pasty.

We did sample the hot pastrami sandwich, and the roast beef sandwich. The pastrami was tasty, but for the price there should have been a bit more meat between the bread. And, shockingly, this is the first time we were ever served a pastrami on rye that did not come with a pickle. Sacrilege!

We might stop there again, if we are in the area, to give the bagels one more try to see if our first visit was just an off-day for them, but in the meantime we will continue our search for a NY-style bagel in Central FL.

“Traditional Boiled Bagels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2012

The bagels are soft with chewy crust the way they are suppose to be. Boiled before baking makes them that way. Excellent deli food as well.

“"Everything" Bagels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2011

We make a weekly trek to the Bagel King in Casselberry Commons for “everything” bagels. While we live walking distance from a chain bagel shop that will do in a pinch, there’s really no comparison.

It’s a rare occasion when we sit down and have something other than bagels. When we do, Fannie’s French Toast made with three slices of challah bread is a good choice and should probably be the meal for the day. But it’s the bagels that have us hooked; everything bagels with plain cream cheese, or chunky nova spread on special occasions.

Linzer cookies are also a must.

Bagel w/plain cream cheese $2.00
w/chunky nova spread $3.50
