“Litter, dirty, overrun with cats and LOUD ships in the night.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2008

We booked a tent sight for the launch of the STS-126 Endeavour for two nights. We had a map of the campground from last spring and they had changed the location of the sites so we ended up being in a different location than our map showed. We did like that although the tent sights in our area were close together there was adequate foliage between them so you couldn't see your neighbors. We have a large ten and had a difficult time finding adequate space for it. Most of the ground at our site had stumps, debris or exposed roots that make it dangerous for tent bottoms.

Jetty Park does not allow wood fires only gas or charcoal grills which quite honestly stinks! Camping is all about the fire and although we knew their policy we seriously underestimated the impact it would have on our experience. We never cooked a meal there and the kids were excited about making popcorn and smores but quickly lost interest. The grill was filthy and had significant holes from rust in it. Thanks for the garbage left in it from previous occupants.

The bath/shower house was near our site. They only have 3 toilet stalls, 3 showers and 2 sinks so there is usually a wait. In the evenings there is a foul odor from the bathroom and I am not sure why. The building was not cleaned the entire weekend. There was a lot of sand and debris in the shower and although I always were flip flops in them it was still kind of nasty.

The amount of litter laying around the park in the bushes, at the sites and around the fences was tremendous! Even my 9yo was shocked and disgusted by the litter. Our family policy is to leave our site in better condition than we found it and I have to confess that there wasn't enough time to pick up all of the trash!

The area seems to have a problem with ferral cats. I saw it mentioned in literature related to the park asking occupants not to feed them. Both nights we stayed we could hear them fighting in the bushes outside of our tent. The last night we were there I actually thought they were locked inside our tent they were so close! Yes, I know better than to leave food or trash for them so they were not attracted to our sight for that reason. We did see lots of them roaming during the day. It seems to me that the city/county could do something to round them up and spay/neuter them to help with the population explosion.

Friday morning about 7 am we could hear a loud horn from a cruise ship coming in. I actually didn't mind that as our kids are usually up by then anyway. HOWEVER, on Saturday night around 2 am we were awoken to a VERY LOUD live band and whooping and hollering from people coming into port on what I assume was the casino party boat. Oh my goodness was it loud! It also lasted for 30-45 minutes as the came down the canal. Keep in mind our site was on the opposite side of the campground from the ships! Also, I think there is a group of campers that have RV's that are set next to eachother. Approximately 5 families. Anyway, there is a 10pm quiet request in the rules but this group apparently is exempt. They had their large screen tv out under the awning with everyone watching the game. The sound from the tv was pretty loud and then when a play they liked occured....the shouting began. Security went around several times but never seemed to pay any attention to them. Bring ear plugs!

  • Liked — The privacy of the tent sites 407-415 and the closeness of the bath house.
  • Disliked — Everything else.

Suggestions to the unimpressed: go east if you want Snowwhite and the Seven Dwarfs! My Wife and I recommend this campground to all. It is close enough to everything, yet it has the rustic charm. We loved this park. It is a short walk to the beach and the jetty. And, it is short drive to everything else. When we stayed, we went on the cruise. We enjoyed adult bevs, one-armed slots and rode the tram to & from. Recommend. Also, we suggest dining at the small restaurant just up the road for breakfast. The park is close enough to everything that there is to see. We liked it so much that we are going back again a year later. We might be able to post some pictures afterwards. And, if you see a small car stuck in one of those potholes, help them out so they don't come back. Happy camping.

We first heard about Jetty Park when we drove down to witness the shuttle launch. We loved the place so we stopped at the office on the way out and booked in a week after speedweeks in Daytona. Can't say any negative about Jetty Park Campground. We really have only positive things to say.

We really enjoyed watching the cruise ships go in and out. The submarine coming in and leaving port was also exciting.

The availabitily of the gambling boats were a plus, although we only went out for the cruise and not to gamble. We loved watching the fishermen on the pier and if your into nature its really a beautiful sight to see up on the deck of the snack bar and from the beach.

The staff at the campground was super helpful and courteous.

As mentioned in several other reviews the roads are not super but it is what it is....rustic!

We will be calling shortly to book in for this year coming. We are snowbirds and enjoy the value price of this campground.

  • Liked — The sites are large enough your not on top of your neighbor

We have camped at Jetty Park for years. I read the other's reviews and would like to remind them that 1) this is not a KOA, 2) this is an 'active' port, 3) it is CAMPING and 4) its costs only 20-30 dollars a DAY! There aren't many places in Florida I have found where one can camp at a beach location. The Park is next to Ron Jon's Cape Caribe Resort where the costs for a week's stay are $1500 or more. Jetty Park allows a family with more limited funds access to the same shore for much less. And, its fun for the kids too --- a little time without video games/PS2's etc., is a very good thing! We had a pop up camper when we camped there and we did seek shade -- many of the trees were wiped out in the 2004 hurricane season -- and, c'mon folks, how many people who have homes at the shore have a lush, treed backyard? -- not many if you walk around and have your eyes open! The staff is always friendly, there are many restaurants within a short drive, there's a Publix grocery store down the street and a great bait shop next to the gentlemen's club in Cocoa Beach (probably less than 2 miles south on A1A. Its a GREAT PLACE!

This is the worst campground that I have ever been. I don't even know where to start. The roads around the campground are neglected dusty limestone trails. Go slow. There's potholes big enough to swallow small cars.
The sites. OMG! They suck! There are a few sites with concrete slabs but most are worn out spots in a grassy field. They are horribly marked and nowhere close to being level. Have patience- your gonna need it. My water was about 30 feet away and on the wrong side. The sewer was also about 30 feet away and up the hill towards the road. My 30 amp cord melted to the electrical outlet obviously because there wasn't enough amperage. Unfortunately I did not know this until we left. We were supposed to stay there 3 nights but left after 1. What a waste of time and money.
There are some good things about the this campground. The staff is really nice and helpful, there's easy access to the beach and watching the cruise ships come and go is cool. But it is still not worth the money or the hassle.
I would recommend anyone who is considering going to this campground...GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

We were very excited to be at Jetty Park, until dark. They dredge the water there 24/7/365. However, they dredge the water right in front of the campground from midnight until 7 am. The lights from the dredger were so bright we didnt need camp lanterns, and so loud that it was difficult to get to sleep. It was like falling asleep in Central Park.
This is a neat location, but the crew we camped with this weekend would NEVER GO BACK because of how negatively the dredging impacted our stay.
If you're dead set on staying here, make sure you ask the person who books your location to be as far as possible from potential dredging areas.

  • Liked — We were able to see a rocket launch from the space center b/c it's so close.
  • Disliked — They dredge the water 100 yards from the tents all night. Very Loud and Very Bright.

Arrived at the park to view the shuttle launch and found out it was delayed a day. No fault of the park. The sites were nice and an easy walk to the beach and pier. Concession stand was never open. No bait or ice ever available so bring your own. The fishing pier was great. but gets busy early. Even though our dog met the weight limits still had a park employee question it. Not very pet friendly and not much space to walk them. Campsites were nice but no shade available for RVs sites. Will go back in cooler months.
