As a 50 year resident of Brevard County, I'll admit that I was a bit skeptical about this tower when it was being built. To start with, it looks wierd, and secondly, I had difficulty what was worth looking at from the tower. But after a recent visit, I have changed my tune.
Yes, I still think the tower looks kinda wierd, but once inside, I found it to be an excellent museum of Port Canaveral and Brevard history, complete with excellent pictures and displays. They even have a nice theater on level 3 with a great history of the Port and area. And the views from the top observation deck are truly spectacular. You can view a complete panorama of Port Canaveral, Cape Canaveral, and the Cocoa Beach area. Even the massive VAB on KSC is clearly visible most days.
I would recommend this for anyone wanting to spend an hour or so getting a feel for Cape and Port Canaveral. There is ample parking, and many nearby bars and restaurants in the "Cove" area of the Port to give you sustanence and a chance to watch the many activities in the Port. It's an especially good place to watch the large cruise ships leave between 4 and 5 PM many afternoons.
They do charge a small fee to enter -- and as a local who knows that the Canaveral Port Authority is far from being broke, I think that a little excessive -- especially since the entire purpose is to give you something to do on your visit to Brevard. But the fee is small, and it is worth it to go in and up to take a look.
