“Good choice before or after cruise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

We recently spent 1 night here before departing on a Disney cruise. We had a 2 bedroom villa for 2 adults and 3 kids and it was plenty of room. The room was clean and well furnished, and had a nice view of the pool and waterpark. It included a washer and dryer (and they provided the detergent), which was very helpful. The beach was enjoyed by all, and we didn't find the tram to be a nuisance. The water park and the pools were terrific, and it was easy to watch the kids while enjoying some shade along the side. We were able to use the facilities as soon as we arrived (before noon) although our rooms were not yet ready, which was very helpful. They also helped arrange transportation to our ship the next morning through a shuttle service.

While I wouldn't personally choose to go here for a full week's vacation (in those cases, I would prefer to have more dining options onsite and more excursions very nearby), we all thoroughly enjoyed the resort for our short stay and would recommend it for a quick cruise stopover or a long weekend.

We recently stayed a week after being at Summer Bay near Orlando. Cape Canaveral is a different type of town than Orlando, which we discovered immediately. There seems to be a slightly more seedy feel to the place as it is a port and Military town. After being in Disney and surrounding area it was odd to see strip clubs.

However, at the resort you are in a different atmosphere altogether. We would definitely return as we have a small family and they seem to cater to our genre there. If we were just a couple, younger or older I likely wouldn't choose this resort. However seeing as how we have two small children ages 6 / 3 it was almost perfect.

We stayed down in the beach front condos. The wood construction made it easy for you to hear your neighbors unfortunately. The unit above us enjoyed moving their furniture around the tile floors all hours of the day - likely the small children as it seemed to stop in in the evening. As well, you could hear people when they were partying. However, as mentioned it is a family resort and when you have small children the party doesn't typically go past about 11 as they need to get up early.

We had a couple of issues with the appliances within the suite. The garbarator clogged and the dishwasher backed up in the sink and overflowed - that made a mess. But the staff was quick to respond and fixed everything immediately. We asked for more towels one day and they cleaned the entire suite.

The play area inside was great for the 1 cooler day we had. The pool and waterslide were perfect. My son hit is nose on the side of the pool and hurt himself. Immediately he had 3 pool staff there making sure he was o.k. and getting him an ice pack. They were over the top helpful which I didn't expect of 3 younger guys. Drinks at the pool were cheap at happy hour and the staff was again very polite and courteous.

The beach was close to our part of the resort and the children enjoyed it. We saw dolphins in the wild from the pier as well as turtles and lots of other fish and birds. As well we enjoyed watching the cruise ships come and go.

All in all there were a couple of hiccups but in the end we determined we would definitely go back.

AMAZING PLACE. LOW PRESSURE TIMESHARE PRESENTATION. SEE LAST PARAGRAPH FOR TIMESHARE INFO. We loved this place. It is about 40 minutes from Orlando airport. The toll was $2.00 each way. Waterpark in the front, beach in the back. Movie theater, mini golf, a basketball court, 2 magic shows, and an animal show. What more can you ask for?

We left the resort to go to Jungle Adventures and on a horseback riding tour. We also took a short ride down to Cocoa Beach Pier and Ron Jon's Surf Shop. We really didn't feel like we needed to leave this resort. We had an oceanfront room. Ocean view, 2 bedrooms, full kitchen, very, very clean. We went grocery shopping (short distance) and ate out on the balcony on most days. Check in / Check out took 2 minutes. I had trouble with their WiFi but they have a media center with a 2 computers and printer - fee of charge. I used the computers repeatedly without any problem.

The waterpark is awesome. Huge pool, volleyballs, waterfall, lazy river, huge slide. You can see the cruise boats leave port from the top of the slides. It was great these ships so close. The movie theater had a great selection of movies. You can bring your own popcorn and drinks. The beach is clean and the water is shallow. Waves were great and the water was warm. Staff was so nice. We went to a couple of activities and the staff that hosted these events were wonderful.
Free magic show, $5 magic show (per person) and $3 animal show (per person) were all great. Best part is they were all at the resort.

I got a deal on this place because we went to a timeshare presentation. I went in prepared to fight to get out of buying a timeshare but didn't need to fight. They do their presentation and you just say no. They offer a few different options and they say fine to your "No." I got a little upset because I warned the guy that I would not stay over the 90 minutes. Well he ran over and when I said we had to go, he said, "OK, you can go." Honestly, the first guy we had really dragged things out, but the next guy that we were passed onto was great. The timeshares are crazy expensive, but if you traveled a lot you end up with a yearly vacation for about $1000 (after paying for the timeshare week). In the end, we got this week from Cocoa Beach Marketing for $500 less just for going to a 90 minute timeshare meeting.

Nothing bad to say. Loved every minute of the experience. Our kids are 9 and 12 and never got bored.

Room Tip: If you are thinking of buying a timeshare, look for a resale. I have begun my research and it seems...

We were so relaxed at this hotel. It made you feel like you are in the tropics. It is a timeshare property, so there is no housekeeping. You have to exchange your towels and throw your garbage down a shoot. The grounds are beautiful and there is so much to do. The pool and water park are fantastic. The beach is 5 minutes away and you can take a tram or walk. It is private and pristine or you can walk five minutes further down the beach to jetty park with a playground and concessions. There is mini golf, a children's play center, movies, arcade, teen center and children's activities and even child care at the hotel. Just be aware everything closes early. The water park at 5 p.m. , chairs and umbrellas on the beach can only be rented until 4 p.m., mini golf closes at 9 p.m., you can't get towels after 7 p.m. and the pool closes at 10 p.m. Even restaurants and places in Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral close early. We did have dripping air conditioning in our room and the attended to it immediately. We had a studio suite with lots of room and storage and a fridge and microwave. They do not allow friends to come and pay for day passes which we were kind of bummed about since we have friends in the area and we did not want to leave our resort with all the great activities and things to do. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Also, the cafe did not serve breakfast, which was kind of inconvenient. But overall it was very relaxing and pleasant and accommodating.

Room Tip: Stay in the main building to be close to the pool and waterpark. We were overlooking the mini golf...

I was traveling with a group of friends and family on an NCL cruise ship that came in to Port Canaveral on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at about noon.

Over the years we've learned to sometimes avoid the cruise ship excursions and do our own thing and, on this occasion, 38 of us (friends & family ages 3 to 65) rented about five rooms at Ron Jon in order to get bracelets and spend the day at the resort and nearby beach. Ron Jon does not sell day passes, but if you rent a two bedroom room for a couple hundred dollars, you get up to eight bracelets for the resort. No brainer. The resort has a great pool, lazy river, huge water slide, and plenty of other stuff for kids to do. If you're on a ship like we were, it's also nice to freshen your laundry via use of the washers and dryers in the rooms.

Checking in was fast. Rooms were immaculate. Food at the restaurant was great.

If I had one complaint (and it's a very minor one), it would be that the service at the outside Tiki Bar by the pool could be faster. The lone bartender definitely hustled and did the best he could, but they could have used at least one more to deal with all the hungry and thirsty people out at the pool. But overall, the beer was cold, the drinks were well made, and the burgers and other fare were good.

Although we didn't spend the night, I'd recommend this as a place to go and we'll be back. The staff and management are very responsive and communicative, both before and after your stay. It's a fun, safe, and very clean place, with a nice beach within walking distance. Overall, we were all happy we chose it.

FYI: we used a company called Happy Hour Shuttle to get us back and forth from the resort to the ship. They were fantastic to deal with and I'll use them again when I'm in the area.

My family (wife and 3 year old) just returned from a 4 day stay at Ron Jon and Im a bit torn on whether or not I truly got the type of experience out of this resort as I had hoped. So the best way for me to break it down is by pro's and con's and let others decide.

Pro's - Pool area was fantastic. Clean and well maintained, with attention given by the staff. Lazy river was the highlight for us. Kiddie pools are excellent.
- The indoor childrens play area was also terrific.
- Living space is large with most rooms having washer/dryer
- Movie theater

Cons - Overall service! Im from Texas and maybe Im just used to people smiling and asking how you are doing. The staff at Ron Jon seems the least bit concerned with the fact that you are on vacation and spending your hard earned money here. Don't get me wrong, if you smile and wave at them you might get one in return - but no real hospitality from them.

- No breakfast served on premise! This one surprised me. I stayed in $32 a night Days Inn's that offered a half decent continental. So each morning we ventured off into town past seedy stores to grab dunkin donuts 10 minutes away.

- No maid service means you have to stress when your kids create a mess.

- Quality and look of furniture, and building as a whole seems kind of shoddy for a relatively new resort. Bedding is also along the lines of what you get from a $30/night motel.

- Some rules seem needlessly restrictive and harsh. The 10a.m checkout was the worst of it all. They remind you of it several times and although the rule may not bother me in general - what made it insane is the fact that our own room was not ready when we came in at 4:15pm!!

Now some other items were basically as expected such as the on site restaurant and the other common areas. Parking is decent and close, and the tram to the beach is a nice service. One comment on the bar outside is that it was routinely understaffed - with 1 guy waiting on close to 15 patrons in line. Did not enjoy waiting 20 minutes for a coke!

So the bottom line is that my kid had fun but if I did not have a young child, I would have likely given this 2 stars. The negatives combined with the run down, industrial town location this is in would likely keep me away from this resort in the future.

Room Tip: Do not pick a studio, and if you can - request a bottom floor room facing the pool. It will give yo...

When we were planning our vacation, we were torn between the practicality of a condo and the atmosphere of a resort. With the Ron Jon Cape Caribe, we didn't have to chose. The room had all the amenities of a condo (full kitchen, laundry) with a balcony that looked out over a pool, waterslide and poolside bar. Our kids (8 & 10) debated every morning whether to start with the pool, or head to the beach to play in the waves. The weather was so nice, they never got a chance to try out the movie theatre or indoor play park. A great experience - as soon as we got home, we were trying to figure how to go back!
