Traveled to this lodge as a result of an auction at a Whitetails benefit with 3 friends. The first day we were there we ran into some issues with the trolling motor on our $730 boat rental. The second day a freak accident caused the motor cover to fly off and sink to the bottom of the lake scaring us nearly to death. We still are not sure if these malfunctions were our fault, or not, but the actions of the resort staff is what I want to report here. When the lodge operator discovered the cover missing on the boat motor he became very angry and uprofessional. Once he calmed down he assured us that although they would need to pull the boat out of the water to repair the boat that he guaranteed us that they would get us a new boat. Keep in mind that we assured him we would pay for any damages although we had rental protection for $89 on top of the $730 rental. So this all happened on Sunday. M-W we did no hear a word from the manager in charge and once when walking by the cabin the operator was staying in he actually went out of his way to "dodge us" and as I walked by he moved from the front door inside in an attempt to avoid us. We kept asking for an update from the dock boy which is basically the only staff member on site. Due to the size of the resort however keep in mind that its next to impossible to find a staff member (dock boy) when you need one. So on Wed night when we finally decided to call the operator on his cell phone he was extremely rude and said that he just wanted us to leave and that he was thinking about tacking on extra cabin rental days to make the money from the boat damage back. I understand this sounds somewhat rational, but keep in mind we purchased RENTAL PROTECTION for $89 AND agreed to pay the $500 insurance deductible for the boat!!!!!!!!!!! With his rudeness and unprofessionalism we decided to leave the next morning. For 3 trips out on the lake totaling maybe 5 hours fishing, that we looked forward to for almost 2 years (advance purchase) we had a bill for $1400 cabin rental, $730 boat rental, $89 rental protection, and $500 insurance deductible for boat damages.
We will absolutely never go back there and I warn anyone who has an expectation for professionalism from resort staff this is not the place for you. The place is basically run by cavemen who have no clue what the word professional means. It was shocking how we could have thousands of dollars into a trip and the person running things would actually avoid us and not provide any kind of updates. From what I understand from talking around the guy running the place also is involved in multiple other businesses which makes him less than available for his role at this location.
BY THE WAY, THE FISHING IS NOT GREAT. MOST OF THE GUYS WE TALKED TO CAUGHT NEXT TO NOTHING. If you want good walleye fishing good luck. Better off going to Canada which is not much further away, or go to WI where you can always count on good service.
