I found Smoakhouse Ranch on the internet and decided it would be a great place to go for Mothers Day weekend. There were three choices for accomodations: one rustic cabin or two mobilehome type houses. I chose the rustic cabin for our reservation and looked forward to a real dude ranch experience. Upon arrival we unloaded all our belongings into the rustic cabin, had lunch and just began to relax when someone flushed the only toilet on the second story and water came down on the living room couch. We could see old water stains on the ceiling in the living room so we knew this was not the first experience for this leaky pipe. I told the owners and they advised we would need to move to the two mobilehomes instead of the rustic cabine...the mobilehomes were each smaller than the cabin and would not accomodate the five of us. We were disappointed that we could not all stay together in one unit but were glad that we could move to another unit in the first place. Upon arrival, the inground pool looked a little dirty with leaves etc but not so bad that we would not want to swim in it. My husband went for a swim and soon after he got out of the pool the owner shocked it and said we would not be able to use the pool the entire time we were there...we had all looked forward to swimming more than anything. They knew we were coming for several weeks in advance and they should have had the pool clean for our arrival or left it as it was. The owner and his wife both left for a junket and never returned while we were there...they left a neighbor in charge. The spa was a portable hot tub with a tent gazebo over it...we went in the spa but it was very dirty. We enjoyed grilling on the patio but had to clean the patio before we could use it. Staying in the mobilehome really took away from the ranch feeling that we were expecting to get and it was very awkward with all of us shuffling between the two mobilehomes. The best part of the time was feeding the animals which were donkeys and cows...there were no chickens as advertised. There are TV in each unit but you cant get any reception on them which was frustrating...the owners have a satelite and antennas everwhere on the property but we were unable to get any news at all. The owners have a good idea but need to do some updating and cleaning to make this a great place to stay...everything was lacking in general maintenance.
