We read the reviews online and being a Carolina Girl, I know there is no better seafood than seafood from a fish camp. We drove to Valrico from Tampa (appx. 30 miles) and were pleasantly pleased when we drove up into the parking lot. The outside of the restaurant has a very Floridian feel. There is a massive tree in the parking lot, the outside is very clean and there is additional parking across the road, next to the railroad track. The inside in no way matched the feel of the exterior of the restaurant. The inside was dark and had paneled walls. It looked old, outdated and tired.
I asked the Server if the crab cake was good. Her response "best crab cake on the east coast" . Well, that is a tall order to feel and how do I express how disappointed I was! I didn't see any crab meat and there was little to no seasoning....$8.00 and change for this? I ordered a sweet tea (which was not sweet) and a combination of shrimp and white fish. Hubby also ordered a combo of fried shrimp, white fish and scallops. Along with each order, there is a small bowl of cole slaw that was delicious (best part of the meal), french fries (frozen) and hush puppies. Same as the crab cake, the fish and shrimp had no seasoning and no flavor. The drinks were served in a clear plastic disposable cups. For my husband and myself, the total tab was $61.
The service was wonderful and that combined with the cole slaw is worth two stars. This is a restaurant that we shall not be visiting again.
