“Great place, great price, stayed in 1 bedroom unit facing beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2010

My husband & I stayed the weekend to go to a wedding and we really enjoyed it. Our room faced the beach - even though there is a busy road to cross, you can still see the beach somewhat do to NO buildings on the dune area. Some other places that are across the road would be facing another building. This is what sold me over other similarly priced hotels. We found the place very clean, the staff excellent, and were very happy. They have a flatscreen TV on the wall, basic kitchenette needs, and the shower was good water pressure & hot (just how I like it!) The table folds up if you need the space. We are more beach people & didn't use the pool, but did walk past it & it was very nice/clean. They had some beach chairs etc. that you can use if you don't bring your own. They have rocking chairs on the porch outside the room. You also get to park directly in front of your room. The beach was great. I was very excited to find a whole sand dollar, and there were dolphins swimming very close to shore. They have a hose to wash off your feet etc. near the porch outside the rooms. There is a great Jamaican place that you can walk to, and other outdoor/indoor restaurants also walking distance. The only thing I found that wasn't perfect about this place has been fixed recently - I didn't like the light coming in thru the mini-blinds when I was sleeping (I'm a dark sleep person!) but when I wrote to tell the management how much we enjoyed the stay & suggested darker window covers, they wrote back that they appreciated my suggestion & did already do this upgrade. I also noticed even though there are people right around you, it was quiet inside the room. Great place!

I don't have a lot of great things to say about this place.

We chose this place based on the positive reviews and because we were staying on Anna Maria for only 3 days and most places require a 7-day minimum and when we booked, there was little available but this place. I guess that makes sense that it was still available based on our experience.

We were charged $670 for 3 days in early April 2010. I wouldn't mind the price if I thought it was worth it. The people running the place were rude and argumentative both on the phone and in person.

We requested and received a 2 bedroom cottage. It was unit #12. It really wasn't 2 bedrooms and it wasn't a true cottage as it was not free standing. When you walk in, the front door opened into a small sitting room where they placed a double bed. This was bedroom #1. From there you stepped into the second bedroom with a queen bed. Also in this room was a TV mounted to the wall and a small couch. The 2 bedrooms were separated by a closet type door. In the 2nd bedroom, there was a short hallway to the bathroom on the left side and on the right side it led directly to the kitchen area. Therefore, this was listed as a 2 bd, but it really isn't. The only real door in the place is the door to the bathroom. This unit is really more like an efficiency.

We came with 2 small children and because we could not close a door, the were constantly waking up from the noise which could not be avoided as you walked around or prepared something in the kitchen or watched TV. In the bathroom, there is only a glass stand up shower - no bath. The unit only had a VCR - no DVD player. A bath and DVD player sure would have been nice to have for the kids. When we booked the place, we said we would be bringing small children and they said their place was very accommodating for kids. Yeah, right.

The place is old...probably from the 50's. Most parts were clean, but there were cobwebs on the ceiling fan and orange scum around the shower base. Also, the inside of the bathroom and kitchen cabinets smelled of mildew. I could just be picky here, but my wife likes a place to be clean and this did not meet her standards.

There were a couple of things I did like. One was the back patio. This gets you to the pool and it nice to sit out there in the morning or afternoon. This place was listed on Trip Advisor as not having internet, but you can find antiquate coverage by the pool or on your patio. Also, there is a hose to wash off the sand after going to the beach. Also, the pool is very nice. It is small, but clean and the water was warm.

I would definitely NOT recommend this place. Please use our experience to find a better place. My parents are big fans of the Harrington House.

Just stayed in the King Bed room, and was pleasantly surprised at how clean and updated everything was. Usually these types of places in tbeach communities are "functional" but kind of dirty. Our room had a gorgeous canopy King bed that was VERY comfortable and even a good-sized flat-screen TV! The little kitchenette was extremely useful. It was perfect for what we needed - not to be overcharged and a nice play to stay while we attended a wedding on the island. Also, so many of the places on the island require a 3-nite stay so it was nice that this one didn't.

NOTE - I noticed one review lamented their lack of internet access, but they now have free wireless internet and I enjoyed that very much.

Beach is ten steps across the street, and you must have breakfast at the Gulf Drive Cafe, just a minute's walk down the street and right on the beach. Food was yummy and reasonable and the view couldn't be beat.

Staff at Queen's Gate was extremely friendly and helpful as well. Couple of drawbacks are that it's not right on the beach, it is across Gulf Drive, and Gulf Drive itself is a very busy thoroughfare so traffic is pretty steady.

We rented cottage #7 for our last day of vacation in Florida, which also happened to be my birthday. We wanted to spend our last day relaxing on the beach which is exactly what we did. Kathy Wooten, checked us in and could not have been more cordial!! Thank you for making us feel so welcome! The cottage was extremely neat and clean. We will be back, and will stay more days next time!!

My husband, our grown kids & our 3 yr. old granddaughter stayed @ Queen's gate & we all loved it ! Going back again this year. You can stay at the fanciest place ever, but if the staff is not friendly, it's not as good. You can stay @ a crummy place, but if the staff is friendly, it's still not good. Queen's Gate has the BESt of BOTh worlds...the place is great and the staff is WONDERFUL ! When we go to the beach, we want ~~~
clean, comfortable, welcoming, laid back, helpful staff, but not intruding,
We had all of that & more. We don't want a fancy condo with glasstop tables, that we're afraid we might track in a little sand from the beach. We rented the House for our 1st week & the 2BR cottage for our 2nd week. The House has a garage, 2 BR, 1 K & 1 Q + 2 double futons in the living room. One bathroom. Full size kitchen, w/ full size appliances & all the dishes, etc. you'll need. You just need to buy your consumables (papertowels, etc.) Decorated with old Florida style, very relaxing. Screened in lanai. Small deck on back. Opens out onto a hug back yard with nice green grass & a large pation, w/ tables & chairs, benches, & a gas grill . Pay Laundry Room. Heated outdoor pool, very nice w/ plenty of lounge chairs & table w/ chairs & umbrella. Staff was extremely nice, hospitable & helpful ! Felt like we'd known them for years. Beach is right accross the street, appr. 3 min. walk. Linenen are laundered by the staff, for free, as often as you'd like, just by putting soiled linens on your back deck. Loved everything about Queen's Gate - especially the cleanliness !

The resort is more like a motel room with a small frig. and microwave and a couple of dishes in your room. The room was clean and right across the street from the beach. But no frills, they don't clean your room or empty the trash, or change the sheets. You put your dirty towels in a basket outside of your room and clean ones appear. The bathroom is very small, the toilet is right next to the tub and there is barely enough room to close the door. Oh yeah, don't forget your blowdryer they don't have any in the room. But we still love Anna Maria Island!
