This NWR has a great Visitor Center with many helpful volunteers to supplement professional staff. Although we were there in a downpour, those who waited saw good birds including the highly reliable Limpkin. This site is a great supplement to the reclaimed water wetlands created elsewhere in Palm County: Green Cay Nature Preserve with a 1 mile boardwalk, many Soras, both Bitterns and other great birds: Wakodahatchee Wetlands with its nesting Anhingas and Herons, which in FEB 2012 include a Wurdemann's Heron, parenting with a dark morph of the Great Blue Heron; and Peaceful Waters Sanctuary in Wellington. All of these sites differ enough to add new species despite earlier visits to the other sites. Together, all sites make a wonderful weekend for any bird watcher.
