SUMMARY: Stayed here January 1 - 4, 2006, overall a nice hotel with very large rooms in slight need of an updating both exterior and interior, good location for getting around South Florida, 4 miles to the public beach in Delray, great breakfast buffet and social hour, pleasent and efficient staff.
LOCATION:
It’s in North Boca closer to Delray Beach and one exit south of Linton Blvd where the Bucky Dent Baseball School is and 38 miles (40 minutes) north of Dolphins Stadium where we went for the Orange Bowl. The hotel is immidiately off I-95’s Congress Avenue exit #50. It sits in a commercial business area so there is not much activity on the weekend and not much to walk to in terms of restaurants. There is a place called Next Store across the street that advertises "home cooked carry out food." It looked good and also sold ice cream. But you really need to drive anywhere for restaurants and that is not a bad thing since Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach has quite a few. There are also many on Linton and a Publix for grocery shopping.
ROOM:
We were on the second floor in one of their "penthouses" room 224. Living/kitchen area had a pull out sofa bed and love seat, fireplace (not working due to Hurricane Wilma which hit late October 2005), two bar stools, full size refrigerator with ice maker, electric stove and oven (which was missing broiling pan and one wire rack), and servings for 4 people (but missing a spatula (sp?) which I didn't notice until I went to turn the hambuger I just made). The downstairs bedroom which was right off the living room (no wall for privacy) was huge and had a full size Murphy bed, desk and chair, dresser, and bathroom. The upstairs loft had a king size bed and bathroom.
RENOVATIONS:
As of January 4, 2006, there still needs to be some roofing work and other exterior work done, but that is the case all around South Floirda due to the numerous hurricanes that have hit the area the past two years, the latest being Wilma in late October 2005. I was also slightly disappointed in the bedding. I have stayed at many Marriott's and they are supposed to be upgrading the bedding to include new comforters and mattresses. This was one hotel that has not upgraded, yet. The king bed was as hard as a rock and the comforter was old and in need of replacing. Maybe delayed due to the hurricane damage.
STAFF AND FOOD:
Breakfast in a nice sized dining area off the lobby where you can grab the Palm Beach Post or USA Today (or both like me!). Plenty of things on the buffet to choose from including scrambled eggs, home fries, oatmeal, cereal, breads, bagels, English muffins, waffles, and sausage patties. Coffee set up in room and at breakfast. Monday - Thursday during the week they have an evening social with a nice little selection of appetizers and cocktails. On Wednesday night they have a BBQ out by the pool. Sorry we missed that one. Front desk staff very pleasant and housekeeping was efficient and thorough.
