I do have to agree with another review...Bring you wallet, but, if you know the resort, you know that going into it. They charge 18% on all food and drink and BTW spa services. I must say my massage was one of the best I ever had (ask for Jodi), but, when I went to check out I found an 18% service charge already attached to my bill. I asked if that was for Jodi and was told No, that is split among all the workers and if I wanted to tip Jodi than I had to add an addtional tip. The bill for one massage was almost $300.
Than I went to relax by the Intercostal I had a lovely drink "April In Paris" for those of you who like sparkling wine...yum.
We did get an amazing deal on our room. We booked through the hotel and used a Florida resident rate. We had a Bungalow suite for $169 plus tax and resort fee (each of which was about $25). The room was amazing, large, full kitchen, living room, bedroom, bath had both walk in shower and tub, 2 flat screen tvs. Amazing, Wow, I was in heaven. The hotel even sent another bottle of sparkling wine to our room to welcome us.
We showered and went to dinner a Cielo by Angla Hartnett in partner with Gordon Ramsey. The food was lovely and they even have a vegatarian menu.
This is where everything took a turn...
We arrived back at our room and the key didnt work...in the bungaloo you are not at the main hotel and there are not alot of people around. I walked from our room looking around for a house phone or anything to contact someone (it is 11pm by now) I did not find a person, but, the office door was ajar so I walked in. Using the office phone I called the front desk to have someone send us a new key. At that time I was told the key was fine, they locked us out do to a credit card problem. Are you kidding? After a discussion they sent security over to open our door. The security officer got to the room and told us he was not allowed to open the door since we were having credit problems and it was hotel policy to lock out people until the bill was paid. I told him I already contacted the front desk and there was no problem he could open the door, needless to say he did not believe me and called them for himself, well it was ok to opent he door.
But the ordeal did not end there, once I got into the room I called down to the front desk to see what the problem was. And how could they just lock people out over a small billing problem. The answer was yes because they have to protect the hotels intrest.
2 quick things 1) the hotel room was pre paid at time of booking and 2) everything except the massage was paid with cash. So in the grand scheme of things we were looking at $250. Hardly enough to break the bank for a luxury resort where drinks run $18 each. Please.
There other responce was they tried to contact us and we did not call them back. Again 1) we checked in at 2pm and 2) there was one message at 9:30 from the front desk that came when we were out to dinner and we could not get back in the room to retrieve it.
Well, after talking with the manager on duty and finding out that yes in deed it was my fault (my credit card company had sent a new card and I gave them the old card, oops) he said that I could come and fix the mistake in the morning. Which would have been fine, but, I asked what can they do to make up for the hassle they gave me? His responce to me was (more or less) " What do you expect me to do comp you a breakfast or something when you havent even paid your bill?" Again are you kidding me?
So much for a relaxing weekend...
Well at least I thought it would be over, but, no. The next morning when I woke up there was another voice mail from the front desk morning person about how are credit card was declined and we needed to come and take care of the problem (this came at 6:30am). Yeah, they were not going to let you get away with there $200.
Oh, took care of the problem, was not comp for anything including time trouble or embarassment. and more or less they didnt even give a darn.
Shame, always looked up to the hotel and resort with awe, not just ashamed.
