My family and I have been going to Boca Grande for about 18 years. South Beach is one of our favorite places for a casual night out. It is right on the beach and you can hear the waves if the din of the crowd doesn't drown them out. This is a very popular spot, with good drinks and a nice menu. You can either eat inside or outdoors on a covered porch (that has clear tent sides that can be closed during cooler weather). This is a good place to come with your kids -- and your older ones will drive you crazy asking you for quarters to play some arcade machines off to the side of the bar. Our favorite dishes are those that include fish or shrimp. South Beach has delicious "baskets" of fried shrimp, grouper, oysters, or chicken fingers. They have an all-you-can-eat shrimp night once a week -- you can have them fried, boiled, or both, and they are yummy. The Grouper Gaspar and Shrimp Don Pedro are also great, as are the stuffed shrimp and the ribs. The salads that come with your dinner are very good, as is the Caesar salad. Also, the onion rings are out of this world -- the best we've ever had -- bet you can't eat one! If you have any room for dessert, they have delicious homemade pies -- the banana one is especially terrific. As with any place on the island, South Beach is not inexpensive, but it's a great place to eat.
