I am a lighthouse buff and I came here basically to see the Port Boca Grande Lighthouse. I visited this very interesting place of historical significance and learned a lot about this area and how it was settled, and of course the history of the lighthouse itself whch ws built in 1890. The lightouse and adjoining structures are maintained well and are in very good condition for thier age. There is a museum in the lighthouse structure. I also looked out from the porch of the light and saw the beautiful long white sandy beaches of the park and the many people and families enjoying themselves on the beach and at the park's picnic areas. The water was a green turquoise color like often seen in the keys of the Bahamas. There is a $3.00 entry fee per car on the honor system and the parking is somewhat limited and more difficult to find in early afternoons. To my knowledge, this lighthouse is only one of 6 open to the general public in Florida.
