“Always deer to see..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

Just drive west from the light... at the first stop sign turn right to the end. Drive through the neighborhoods and the deer will be there eating peoples lawns, flowers and gardens. Pretty little deer.. Not very afraid of people because the island is a reserve.

“Come see the minature deer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

The National Key Deer Refuge is a place where deer will walk right up to you. In addition to the deer, the bird population is incredible. During the fall, you have the chance to see Peregrine Falcons, Bald Eagles, Ospreys and Vultures. It's quite a unique place and pretty family friendly. Be sure to stop into the shopping plaza and hit the Refuge Office. They've got a small display and information about the refuge and some of it's history. They've also got a gift shop. If you are on Big Pine Key, it's worth a stop.

“Very interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013

We saw three key deer so great fun. Did a few of the walks but did not see anything. Wrong time of day and of the year. Worth the stop. Be sure to go to the visitor center to get information. They are very friendly.

“Amazing Deer and then some”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

We went to the refuge to look for the smallest sub-species of White-Tailed Deer. We missed the turn in for the Visitor Center and had to turn around and in doing so spotted three of them behind the Winn-Dixie. We got a few nice shots with a natural background but sought something a little more natural as well. After getting some good info from the park ranger at the visitor center (and grabbing a letter box geocache there as well, we headed out to the trails. At the far eastern end of Watson we parked walked north along the water's edge and spotted a buck eating mangrove propagules. fantastic. After turning around and walking south on a deer trail we found two more including one with a rack that looked too big for its head. Another cool sighting. Loved the whole experience and hope the deer can hang on as habitat continues to disappear due to humans.

“little bitty deer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

Not much of a hunt to find these amazing critters. Just drive off the main drag and they are hanging in people's front yard. About the size of medium dogs.
