This is an absolute must see on your trip to the Keys! Actually comprised of three beaches, camping, nature trails, concession, bathrooms, etc. Was here Sunday, 7/21. Here is what the website has to say about dogs: “Due to the small amount of land area at Bahia Honda, only limited accessibility is available for pets. Pets are not allowed in cabins, bathhouses, pavilions, the concession building, on beaches or in the water. In the limited areas where pets are permitted, they must be kept on a six-foot, hand-held leash and be well behaved at all times. Service/guide dogs are welcome in all areas of the park.” We went to Sandspur beach first and the sign said dogs not allowed on the shoreline. My guy is little and he loves hanging out in his dog backpack. He did lay out on a towel and I had him on my lap under an umbrella and once for a quick dip in the water to cool off. No one noticed but I’m sure a big dog would have been spotted by the park rangers walking around. He also explored a tiny bit of what I think was Calusa. Just a quick walk and another quick dip in the water to cool off. He was mostly in his dog backpack and most people don’t notice him that way. Even in the concession building where I wasn’t even aware he wasn’t supposed to be! Certainly not encouraging anyone to sneak little dogs in. I just hadn't read the website before I went and was under the impression that it was totally dog friendly. So just a heads up to all you dog lovers out there! =)
